I have been researching the aleph X amp and it looks to me like it would work without using a smps due to it's low voltage requirements. To quote the wiki.
"The prototype (hifiZen rev0.9) Aleph-X PCB was built and tested using a C-only supply (68,000uF per rail) with a single Schottky rectifier bridge (4x MBR3045WT), feeding a total of 5A at +/-12.5V to a single channel. The supply rails had 430mV measured ripple, and there was almost no audible hum at the speaker. However, a CRC filter can reduce the ripple to around 15mV."
It seems to me that this would make a great cannidate for a car amp because you would not need a smps. I know that heat would be a possible issue but the great thing about amps in a car envrionment is that you can use a fan for cooling.
So does anyone want to try this or give some input?

I am not aware of a practical way to get +-12v(24v) from a car battery at A-X currents without a SMPS. At +-6v the amp really wouldn't function I think. If there is a way..I'll find out soon enough🙂
The only thing I know about voltage doublers is that they double voltage 🙂 and that (I thought) they have very limited current capability. I VERY well could be wrong but 🙄
Voltage doublers also require an AC input,and output (pulsed) DC.
I'm sure you could make a charge pump or something for the -12V.
Maybe Maxim or someone has a suitable IC?
