Just got an old Kogi monitor (backlight pretty much non-functional) and it had a picture. So I took it apart to play with it and now, no picture. First time I plugged it in after dismantling, with the connected components on the table (no shorts, checked for that), thought I smelled something, saw a small whiff of smoke so I unplugged it...
Ever since then, no more smoke, no more smell, no more picture 🙁 I don't see any scorches on the boards, and the power led stops blinking when I plug in a source.
Anybody have any ideas of things I missed?

Was the back light plugged it? I once burned a hole in my finger nail touching the transformer for the back light, made a nice burning smell. That might be the problem with no back light. Did you remove any films like the polarizer?
Yes, it was plugged in, but lack of backlight wasn't an issue; there's just no picture on the panel itself. I didn't remove anything from the panel.
The backlight was out when I got the monitor; it's sitting on an OHP for lighting.
