I recently pulled my Luxman R117 out of moth balls. I recapped this baby and replaced the speaker relays about 8 years ago when I was listening regularly. Everything still works fine except for the sticky tone defeat switch...probably just needs some deoxit. Anyhoo, when I turn the input to FM, I get no output...not even static. Per the signal strength meter, I'm getting a strong signal. I have a dipole antenna connected but get nothing. Any thoughts?
Check the power to the FM section, usuallly a 7812 regulator which has desoldered itself
because it had no heatsink.
because it had no heatsink.
If you are getting a strong signal on the meter, the tuner pack should be working fine. Nothing wrong with checking voltages, always a good first step.
Do you have an oscilloscope?
Also, make sure the tape monitor isn't pushed selected..

Yes it would. I'm wondering if the switch got pressed by accident.
I'd have to look at the manual to see if there are any other possibilities, but signal strength means the IF is getting a good signal. Past that is the detector and MPX sections. So if the MPX has a seperate mute or power supply, that could do it. The signal strength drive comes from the IF chip. Normally it's all the same +12 VDC supply.
