A few posts back in this thread someone mentioned satira as latin influenced from the greek language. I must one more time correct somebody for their ignorance of the greek language but Satira IS a greek (hellenic ) word.
Satira is a kind of comedy or theater that has a lot of sarcasm, self sarcasm, sexual jokes or bad language and so on. Something like todays comedy (stand-com I think it´s called) and not only.
What realy bugs me is that every body gives a lot of value to the latin language and culture, without this era having much of culture to give to humanity except from maybe barbarism, violance and illness. Some people even think the coloseum is a work of art that should be wondered on. ....

Promitheus.
Hey Hellas,
Let's just say that happened in the heat of the moment?
Most of our words describing less day to day matter stem from Greek.
Most medical names,some plants etc.
E.g.(and that's Latin for exemplum gratie) rhododendron:
Tree from Rhodos.
The Greek are the fountain of our cultural pleasures, whereas the Romans were conquerors.
I can see where the confusion originated though: ira in Latin means anger.😀
Remember Socrates:Gnoti seauton kai,....
Know yourself so you know the others (freely translated).
Kali nichta,😉

To all in this family
I do not request or have any need for an apology or for sin bin for any member of our diyaudio family. As far as I'm concerned this is a small family tiff as families have. My post to Grey was along the lines of "Hey watch it brother, watch what you're saying about me! I do not think Grey was malicious in intent. I think he was careless and posted without thinking. He is not perfect but he is sincere in his passion to improve the local educational standard - this was a poor choice of words not a personal insult.
Nor do I think Fred was malicious by intent with his sockpuppets - misguided maybe but he's trying to get on track. A troll war destroyed the only other home I had on the internet a while back. Now I have found this place I would like to call home. I had major fears of another troll problem destroying this place, so I posted in vehement opposition to any trolling. As I came to feel that Fred (aka 15 other nyms) wanted to be here, I wished to extend a welcome back to him. He has come back into the family.
I would be deeply saddened if the same post was the cause of departure of another member of the family -
Let's don't get all bent out of shape about this - things like this happen in all families all the time, and families go right on putting things behind them and forgetting it - so let's do the same.
I also posted in error - I wish to edit my previous statement to remove any commemt about offence and to say "watch it, brother" instead.
I wish to make it quite clear that as far as I am concerned that there has been "no foul" here and that every single member of our family should move forward and put this behind us.
It seems to me that everyone has had plenty of time to post their thoughts to this thread - So let's all give it a rest - let this thread die and move on down.
Quite sincerely
Ken L
I'm too tired to find or make a group hug smilie - I'm on the tail end of a couple of 14 hour days

Would you kindly explain what is humorous about denigrating the citizens of another country and precisely why the French are a problem.

Hi John and welcome to the group🙂
Fred's comments were just a joke, please don't take it seriously.
If your want to take it further, email me, rather than posting to this thread, and I will explain the circumstances. I tried to email you, but you have chosen not to accept emails from other members.
Moderators, can we lock this thread, I think every thing has been said.
Welcome back, Harry, Fred, etc, etc

Fred and promitheus,
if you can read German, give Joachim Fernau's "Cäsar läßt grüßen" a try.
Man, does he give the Romans a hard time 🙂 And, man, is he right with that.
re: Latin language.
simple explantion why it is so highly esteemed by some:
Latin is a language almost without exception and with a complex and powerful grammar like English. To learn Latin is to learn like a language works or, better, shold work. English has inherited a lot from Latin grammar-wise, that its vocabulary is so powerful is just an added bonus. I wish i could say that from my mother tongue. If i am to describe causal relations, i switch to English, i even think English then. But primary cause for that preference is my Latin.
An easy-to-grasp comparison between Latin and French or German:
remember µprocessor instruction set:
a Motorola 6809 instruction set is like Latin: symmetric, different adressing momdes work the same on all possible opeartions, structured, powerful vocab, without confusing exceptions.
An Intel 8051 instruction set is like a Murphy's mixture of German and French vocab / grammar:
no symmetry, adressing is a pangalactic mess of exceptions, weird push and pop behaviour, a major PITA.
(Manfred, if you should read that, i am no longer advocating either platform, i just am comapring assembly language differneces as an example)
Latin is almost a desinged language whereas German and French and also Italian are living and grown languages. Grown means grown bent and titled and intertwened here.
French and German speaking people, no offense meant, it is a comparison and our languages have other beauties.
Fred,
having said that, may i recommend you refrain from recommending the link you posted? I haven't checked it out, i just saw the results :16ton:..and i had another porcupine to brush than pouring olio extra vergine di oliva ("Fructus" grade, $$$$) in exactly that fire, stirring you up in a differnt, distracting meaning. 🙂 and i pulled myself back from commenting it.
Ken L,
you did the right thing, now please do not get frightened by your own courage.
Would sadden me too if Grey would leave.
I tried to keep a sense of proportion; 2weeks with 13 days of it suspended.
Point is: Either we act totally arbitrary and get accused of that and right so. Or we altleast stick to some criteria whati s a no show and then formal violations must trigger action. If the malicious intent is so observably absent, we can respond to that by sizing the action appropiately. That's what i tried to do.
BTW,
spells {grouphug}, just with colons instead of curly brackets. 🙂
Oh, and .. answer my email after you caught some sleep. 🙂

Since enough have been said, it might be wise to close this thread indeed. And who is better to do it, than a person who opened it?😉
BTW, I've never thought I'll ever close a thread, but here, it's done without hard feelings, I hope?😉 😉
Cheers.
