NHT MA-1 Let the Smoke Out

Hi......fairly new to DIY so excuse the newbie-isms.

Have an early '90s NHT SW2 / MA-1 combination. Something in the MA-1 amp has let its smoke out, and it no longer performs (keeps blowing the input fuse). This all started with a thunderstorm and lightening strike. Afterward, the amp would turn on, but within a few seconds, it pops the main power fuse. Consequently, here are my options:

  • Trash the MA-1 and add an integral amp (plate?) to the SW2, converting it over to a powered sub.
  • Replace the MA-1 with a suitable substitute.
  • Have the MA-1 repaired (not sure where to have that done).
  • Repair the MA-1 myself (I have the capability but not sure if I have the time) by selectively replacing components (can get MA-1 schematic).
I think the most economical solution will be to either convert the SW2 to "self-powered" by adding an integral amp (besides, most systems nowadays require a powered sub) or repair the MA-1 myself. Does anyone have any good ideas/suggestions for an integrated amp for the SW2 (16 x 16 x 16 cube)? I have tried to get hold of Jack (Hidley) to see if he may have any leftover plate amps or MA-1 parts but have not been able to reach him. BTW, the MA-1 was an 80 Watt'er but the SW2 will handle 200W. I am looking for the most economical solution to be able to continue using this sub.

Thanks for your help!

Eric.
