Hi all.

New to this site so please be patient if I get some terminology wrong.

Having caught the HiFi bug way back in the early eighties watching my old man repair, build, collect and play some serious gear, I have now turned into the bloke who (try's to repair) collect and revive older units. one thing I did learn was how to check resistance and how to solder quiet neatly!!

Having said the above I am no expert and require the help from the guys in the know. I have been given a Denon 2400 power amp, none working. I have found a few fuses, resistors and transistors blown. I have replace all the resistors, fuses like for like, check all the others - good so far, but some of the transistors are a pain to source.

the transistors are 2SC2458 BL BL, and a few ending with GR BK, I can find loads of resistors "2SC2458 GR 4J" will these do?

All I can find in difference is a lower noise level with the BLBL

Also a few Diodes that are 1SS270A, high speed switching, could any one recommend a alternative,

Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The part number's suffix GR specifies the Hfe or gain category of the transistor. In this case it is 350-700 and it is often critical to meet this spec. so it's wise to ensure you have it. The second suffix figures BK,4J etc. are just batch or related manufacturing identifiers.

For audio, 1SS270A diodes are close enough to a standard 1N4148 diode and in most amplifier locations, I wouldn't hesitate to substitute rather than try to source a 2 cent Hitachi part for originality's sake.

Here is a service manual source which some might like to study and use rather than just prod about, flying blind. Denon POA-2400 Manual - Stereo Power Amplifier - HiFi Engine
