If I wanted to build my first amplifier, what would be a good place to start. I have good knowledge of electronics and transistors. Would it be best to start by using one of the NS LM3875 chips? It seems that all I would really need is a preamp, power supply and heatsinks to get those working.

Or would a simple transistor amp be better. I currently have an Outlaw 1050, which is 65 W per chanel, and sounds pretty darn good, it drives a pair if DIY speakers, which will have active XO's soon.

Here are the speakers: GR.V.P

Let me know what you guys think is best. The good thing about the IC amplifiers is that I can get them for free because I am a student and all.

Thanks,
Paul

well that Amp is nice. Is there one that uses less volts that would just as easy to make. Say 12v.... ok by now you should know what i'm thinking of... I'm new to this place too and i was reading some of the stuff... It is really deep. But it will help me while working at radio shack.
