newbie w/Powerstrip resize idea

I have been reading this forum for a few months pondering about building a projector. I want to, but as a student, spending over 500 CAD on an lcd monitor and then risk breaking it by moving the boards that are folded over the back of the screen seems a little to rich for my blood just yet. But i think powerstrip may be an alternative. I have seen people mention it but i think it is being underestimated. I currently am running a crt monitor and by changing the timing and total pixels i am able to move my screen to the top left conner of the monitor.

Why can't we do the same thing with a monitor???? get an lcd monitor that accepts rgb (i am so sorry, i know dvi is so much better but i don't think it could be done with dvi, someone wanna try [i don't think you can damage you monitor, it will just turn off and say unacceptable signal or something]). Okay, back to the rgb lcd. say it is 1280 x 1024. Set res to 1024 x 768 and then use powerstrip to resize the monitor and move the screen. Sounds simple and this is assuming that an rgb lcd acts like a crt.

the downside as you all know is that you will lose resolution, but it seems to be a better trade off then a busted lcd.

any ideas???

sorry if this has been mentioned before, i didn't go back through ever post

thanx
