Newbie trying to build an home amplifier

Hello all,

I got an old dual 1210 with amp case that doesn't work anymore. However I do like the case and thought it could be fun to try and give this a second life. This is my first project, i'm pretty new at diy but like the learning and the fun. I am not looking for a top level amp, but a good overall sound though for a 30m2 room. And as a first project I can't go too much into electronics and building as my knowledges are limited, I'd prefer to start with built module.

I have pretty much the same case as below but on an older version:

On the other hand, I have a media server on a rasp 3 + I want to invest in a turntable because I have lots of old records I'd like to play + a bluetooth receiver for listening music from computer or phone when friends come over.

Moreover, I try to be minimalist and would like to build goods I can upgrade and repair myself instead of buying full new stuff constantly.

Here is a pretty simple and dirty sketch of my idea:

As I said this is pretty new for me so I'm looking for advises on the parts I should get.

First, the amp module: is the 125ASX more than enough ? Do you have other one you would recommend ?

Pre amp: I can't get my hand on pre amp to manage treble/middle/bass & Sound, do I also have to look for specific pre amp pairing well with my amp module ?

Moreover my sound controlers spots are 3 to 4 cm apart on the box, is there anyway I can wire the sound controlers to have them at the right spot in my box ?

Source selection: I cannot find a lot of products for that one, do you have some references, the only one I found are

  • https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/preamp-module/module- buffer-source-selection-2x-ne5532-4-input-rca-p-13243.html?search_query=source%20select&fast_search=fs
Power supply: I understood the amp module already has an integrated power supply but is there anyway to power all the component from the same power source ? If yes, is it complicated for a beginner like me ?

Switch: I'd like to keep the old switch and indicator, is it doable ? feasable by beginner ?

I am open on the budget level, I would say around 400€ would already be a good start. Last question, with a build like this, can I upgrade it easily ? Is there better option if I want to go for 5.1 for example ?

Sorry for the long post, I hope this is all clear and that you will be able to advise me 🙂

Thanks a lot in advance for your help !

All the best,
Phil

Would it not be better to get the existing equipment working and see (hear?) if it is satisfactory for your room? DUAL made decent equipment and there is a large fan base with money on e-bay. What is the model# of the unit. Also, note, Noresco made similar units in Canada. E

The picture is a Dual HS33. This series was *ceramic* cartridge and a minimal 4W/ch amplifier. I would not play good LPs on this. I suspect the mechanics of this turntable are much less refined than the "classic Duals" which people still love (one here).

> doesn't work

"doesn't work" is not a good diagnostic clue. Won't light up? Won't play polka? What DOES it do?

Yes, it's an excellent plan.
With care you can de-solder the pots from the pcb & connect to panel mounted pots with cables - screened unless very short.
The ASX module provides auxiliary +/-24V.
You would a regulator to reduce this to supply the first relay board as this recommends 6-15V DC supply.
The second relay board with buffer would be OTT as the pre-amp would provide any buffering needs.
You have not posted a link to the pre-amp.

It may also be possible to keep part of the circuit 'as is' and take a signal from the existing circuit to feed the ASX module, bypassing the original power amp stage.
This would keep the original controls. Depends what's broken and on how it sounds.

Would definitely concur with PRR on this one. My very first audio purchase was a similar Noresco consolette in the mid ‘60s, and the bottom of the line 1200 series Dual vinyl grinder was not their best work.
Of course, it was one of those pubescent discoveries that are a gateway to lifelong addictions.

Hello everyone !

First thanks everyone for your replies and sorry for my late answer as i've been pretty busy lately.

The all product doesn't work meaning the amp in it is dead, it doesnt' produce any sound and a vintage vinyl player repair in Paris told me it would be too expensive to have it fix perfectly and that except if I really want that product, he wouldn't recommend fixing it.
That's why my idea was to just get rid of all the old component (belonged to my grand dad so probably from the 70's ?), replace it with new ones and juste keep the exterior.
All the input would come from new component as well (new vinyl player, raspberry with dac and bluetooth receiver) so even the old vinyl component will be gone and replace.

I'm just not sure (as a newbie) how to put all the things together and if I'm missing important part for the all stuff to come together and work the way it should.

You have not posted a link to the pre-amp.

Replying to russc, for the preamp I was thinking of a module like this one Carte de tonalite UNISIAN NE5532 OP AMP HIFI preamplificateur basse aigus Balance Volume tonalite egaliseur carte de commande pour amplificateurs KIT de bricolage | AliExpress

Anyone as a document/tuto on how to install and use the power regulator in order to supply each relay ?
And most important, for a beginner like me, Am i risking to burn anything doing this ? Should I consider extra security ?

Thanks again !
