Just wanted to post a quick hello and thanks!
Having been through trialling a few cheap dacs lately for my PC system to try and match the sound from my main beresford/ tag setup I ended up with a 2nd hand Muse NOS TDA1543 x4 (Via an old QED Digit and a CYP AUD).
I'm fairly sceptical about the price/ performance ratio of most kit, and was impressed with the sound of the MUSE over the others.. but wanted more, as you always do!
After reading here and other sites, did the I/V cap removal mod (I'm pretty sure my SMSL T amp has input coupling caps, but checked there was no significant DC on the output before I plugged it all back in!)
WOW, what a difference! very pleased with the improvement with what is really a free mod. I'd say the performance is now on a par with my 7520 with upgraded op amps.
I think this is the start to a slippery slope! If that dac is ok like that, I'm wondering what a modded Valab or the hifimediy CS4398 board must sound like!

Infact, having just back to back'ed the beresford and the Muse.. I prefer the muse! Beresford edges slightly on the bass, but seems to have a strange way of handling highs, it hurts my ears a bit, and just seems too trebly! The modded muse doesn't seem to have this, but seems to lack maybe a tiny bit of detail.
