Hi, Currently have a pioneer cs-363 late 80's speakers
Type: 2-way reflex
Frequency Response: 50Hz - 20kHz
Impedance: 8 Ohms
Sensitivity: 92dB
Power Handling: 40 watt (DIN)
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Also, I have this wharfedale Diamond 7.1
Features:
2-way, ported bookshelf speakers
Compact size
48-to-20,000 Hz frequency response
100 watts RMS maximum power handling
5-way binding-post terminals

Im planning to swap the crossover from the wharfedale to the pioneer seeing that one of the wharfedales are broken.. (70 less volume compared to the other speaker).. will try to see if the crossover is the problem first before swapping..

but if the crossover are alright.. will i be able to swap them? are they compatible? 😀

also, will it make a difference?

its just that I just plan to give or throw the wharfedale away depending if I an fix the problem.. and the pioneer has too much bass... so i plan to line it with some polyester si while im at it planning to upgrade the crossover..

if the crossovers dont match.. any cheap crossover recommendations?

my budget is not more than £20 for a pair.. 🙂

thanks!

Crossovers are designed to match the speaker drive units. You can not just swap them from one speaker to another. Yes, you will get sound but the frequency response will be awful.

If the Pioneers have to much bass then just try adding a series bi-polar cap in the speaker lead. You can make those easily and cheaply from two identical electroylitics connected in series and with either plus to plus or minus to minus joined together (it doesn't matter). Try a couple of 470uf caps first and if that is to bass light then work upwards, two 1000uf's and so on.

The Pioneer speakers may just need lifting off the ground and away from the wall to balance the bass better. Put a speaker in a corner and on the floor and any speaker will boom. It's how it works. 😀

You should open up the Wharfedales and have a look for a bad or loose connection IMO. Seems like you unscrew the back to get at them.

You can use a little 1.5V battery to apply a bit of voltage to a drive unit. It should crackle if it's alive. Seemples. 🙂

We could get more clever with the Pioneer speakers to change the bass balance with some crossover work, but I'd have to know what it currently has in terms of capacitors, coils and resistors and how they are connected. Are you good enough to work that out? I quite like the style of the Pioneers as it goes. Cone tweeters can sound very good.
