My LCD panel only has VGA in. My DVD player has VGA out but of course my DVD's are all "protected" by macrovision.
I naturally have S-Video out on my player and was wondering if the macrovision will still kill the picture if I ran it out from the S-video of the DVD through an Analog to VGA signal convetor and into the panel that way?
I don't have a clue how macrovision works.
Talk about being punished for being a good little consumer and buying my DVD's at the store.

I wouldn't of thought that VGA out to VGA in would have a macrovision issue. Are you sure it is a macrovision issue? As you aren't too familiar with macrovision maybe you're accidently confusing it with other problems?
If you do buy a signal converter it should get rid of it. Some reccomendations are listed throughout the forum. Just search for macrovision (which you really shoulda done before posting, but, too late). Just click on the search button at the top of the page.

Hi, Thanks for responding.
I did look through the 5 threads on macrovision and there wasnt really anything there that addressed my problem.
I only guessed macrovision because when i ripped the movie to VCD and demacrovisioned it, it played on the VGA monitor fine.
The original DVD however only plays on the TV, the VGA monitor stops getting any signal at all as soon as I put in the DVD
Doesn't make sense that VCD will play simultaneously on both screens but the DVD won't.
Macrovision issues were the only thing I could think of killing the VGA signal with the DVD and not a demacrovisioned VCD.

Hmmmm, that's wierd. I wouldn't think VGA to VGA would do that. Just as PC to Panel doesn't. Well the only things I can think for you to do is the more expensive route of buying a signal converter as mentioned, or searching the internet (http://www.vcdhelp.com/ in particular) for macrovision hacks for your player. If you can't find a hack then you will need a signal converter though. With a bit of luck your DVD is firmware upgradable and probably has a macrovision free firmware.
Thanks for your help Morien.
Problem has been solved.
The DVD boots up in PAL resolution and can't auto scale back to 640x480 and the VGA signal switches off (well I'm no techie so I don't realy know what happens to the signal)
I need first to set the DVD player to Monitor only and increase the resolution to 800x600.
Then I can have the PAL size screen fit inside that 800x600 window.
The program will then allow me to change resolution back to 640x480 and will scale and resize the DVD image to fit and run properly.
Well..Ive used stupider programs in my times I guess 🙂
