I am building a DIY set of components in my car and I decided to go passive with my crossovers. I am gonna be running Vifa PLs paired with LPG 26na's. The crossover design looks like this: http://home.rochester.rr.com/ztyczka/schematic.bmp
First of all, what does the "SW" next to the .55mh inductor mean? Does that mean two inductors need to be wired in series to get that or should I just not worry about it and get a .56 one?
Second, I wanna get some boards to do these components on, where can I get them?
Third, If the midbass is 4ohms and the tweeter is 8ohms, what is the crossover point? How did you calculate that.
Finally, what are some good brands of caps, resistors, and inductors to buy? I don't wanna spend more than $80 for the pair, and certainly no more than $100 a pair. thanks so much. I really wanna learn this stuff so I can tackle a set of home audio speakers one of these days.

I'm an xover design newbie as well, so aside from the bump, all I can offer is
boards:http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&SO=2&&DID=7&CATID=48&ObjectGroup_ID=197
pretty good site regarding design:
http://www.silcom.com/~aludwig/Sysdes/Crossove_Design.htm
and a site that will give some info regarding xover point, though it's based on a speakers Znom so I'd assume it's far from ideal:

Quasi hijack, but if anyone has some other good designing sites, please enlighten us...

I'd venture a guess that the "SW" might be to indicate a "silver wire" inductor or perhaps some other type/construction method I haven't thought of that uses those initials. I mostly base this on the presence of the "PP" next to the capacitor value, which in my mind can only mean "polypropylene"; the designer is trying to suggest certain types or quality of components to use.
"Silver wire" inductors are available from any number of sources, but I'll leave it up to others to evaluate the benefits of using them over other types...

you'll find heaps of XO point calculators around, but they assume the same impedance of the drivers
basically a crossover doesn't have to be one unit. for example, high pass the tweeter, low pass the midbass. do a separate calculation for each, and use the components specified for that section. just put them at the same frequency & order (or as close as possible). hope that makes sense.
regarding use of different impedance drivers - i dunno how your car amp will react to running 8ohm drivers, but it will most likely put out about .7 * the power it outputs at 4ohm (just a guess i spose). chances are your tweeters are more sensitive than the midbass, so it may work out ok. i myself would be willing to gamble, and try it. it isn't hard to attenuate the tweeter if it still needs it, or u may actually like the tweeter to be a little louder anyway. what drivers you using?
