i have been obsessing over all ther different ways to make a projector.

i now think i have stumbled across the best sollution...(be the judge)

to get the best light you neew at least 250w+++ metal halide setup

to get decent picture you need to spend alot of money on a projection panel or lcd screan and take it apart.. there are others but you get the idea.

to get the picture in focus in all the corners and a clear image, you need a decent/expencive lense.

there are other parts you need too.

a box, fresnel lense, reflector screan and many more...all costing lots of money.

i have researched all the costs and quality in making this projector. that i drove me to searched for a secon hand projector.

I have come up with a idea that will need all your help in proving.

i am thinking of buying an old, secon hand projector. aprox $250 US

it has 400 lines or horisontal resolution... WOW, cough cough...

but the only thing stoping me from buying this is the bulb factor.

the buld the manual said it takes is a "250W metal halide"
i looked on the inter net and it sells them (bulbs for the projector) for $283 uk.... alot of money!!!!!

i live in Australia. and they are probobly even more here...

I WANT TO KNOW, can i get a cheap 250W metal halide globe (one not specificaly for the projector and from those projector shops) and put it in the projector?

or.

could i hook up a new light source for it?

the projector is a sharp XV-350H. an oldy but ,i think a goody

ahh i really thought u was onto somthing till i got to the end and relized you just wanted to retro fit a projector, the short answer is no u can just use a MH bulb, well this may not be correct because i am not a MH person i prefer my dichroic lamps, you could retrofit it with a new MH kit tho, or other light sorce, someone did it with a dichroic lamp but you'd be better off with a MH, do a search pleanty of people have retro fitted pjs with different lamps.

Cheers,

i cant find any sites with any info on retro fitting a projector with a new light.

does any one know where i can find info on this.

or that i can use a standard/cheap bulb in the projector?

i nedd ther info sooner rather than later.... the projectror is probobly being sold as your reading this..

help me!!!!

The UHP (ultra-high-pressure) bulps for projectors are different to MH bulps. They have shorter arc and they have been made to prevent the tungsten effect which degrades the light quality from MH bulps after some use. So practically you must change the MH bulp pretty soon because it's get dimmer and it's color changes by time. UHP bulps have been filled with a gas which sends the tungsten back to filament (and not to the glass) and thus the light will be shining perfectly for all the life time the bulp's got.
