Hi, i would like to introduce myself to this forum.
I'm Robert Kleven, 16 and from the netherlands. I joined this forum becouse i have a large interest to Audio/Electronics. I've been "building" crappy speakers from when i was 7 🙂 when i was 14 it finaly occured to me there might be calculations involved and since then i've been searching the internet for... well information 🙂.
My first (serious) project was a Bandpass subwoofer. It had some unknown 12" soundlab woofer in it. I didn't know the thiele small parameters so i just assumed 40 by 40 by 40 as case dimensions and when assembled, just tryed out with a large plank until the sound was "best". It didn't realy ever sound great i must say, only if you crank 140 watts through it. But it gets overpowered by my next project.
I had some old jamo 160d's lying around, they had teared edges from age/missuge of the previouse owner so i replaced the woofers with Speaka chassis from conrad (cheapass woofers, 8"). I was amazed (didn't know better) about the great sound. But when i finaly looked closer at the d160's design, i couldn't help noticeing the poor design for this type of speaker. So i went out to design my own Bass Reflex enclosures for them. I ended up with a thundering setup. My amp is only rated at 2x 35 watt. But the soundpressure at 60 hz in the back of my room is incredibly overwhelming. We measured 128 dB at 1m distance using one speaker. To my oppinion, that's a lot for 35 watt 😀 .
Well... that's my last real project, i might make some photo's when they are completely finished (including grilles etc). I did some small projects, like building a slightly higher voltage transformer in an amp, changing capacitors, That kind of tweaking. (so my amp may provide sommething around 40 in stead of 35 watt, especialy becouse the impendance of the speakers is slightly under 8 ohm). But that's all not realy interesting...
The reason i joined diyAudio is becouse i'm beginning another project. This time it's a large step for me and i need all the help i can get.
I want to built a pa-setup to provide audio for a crowd of about 100. Mostly indoor. I'm still doubting between the Fold horn and W-Bin design. And i'm realy not completely sure where to start/what things to take care of....
That's my introduction 😀 All help is welcome..
Regards,
R.Kleven

Hi Robert,
I have been enjoying our emails. Nice that someone your age has such an interest. Ahhh...those were the days.
