New to Hi-fi and especially speakers...

hey friends, i plan to build a preamp and a power amp for my father to use with his Misssion speaker, any recommendation??
I am very to new to stuff like preamp, power amp... coz i am used to be a hea-fier, using high end headphones driving by smaller amp.

can you give me some links to understand how a preamp works together with power amp.
