Hi all!
I'm brand new to this forum. I build recording monitors and I'm posting here because my subwoofer supplier has crapped out on me. I'm desperate for another source for the TC Sounds driver that I use in my main speaker design. It's a 12" aluminum cone driver with a 3" voice coil, copper shorting rings (lower distortion), and +/- 1" linear excursion. And since I've had such bad luck finding a reliable supplier, I'm thinking I need to go directly to TC Sounds itself.
Now, I don't build enough of these studio monitors to make the big minimum purchase required by TC Sounds. So, my idea is to find a bunch of people who would like to participate in the purchase by doing a "preorder" arrangement like Stryke does (they are out of AV12s for the foreseeable future). This way I can get a dozen or so of the speakers I need, and a few dozen other people can get an amazing world-class sub AT COST.
I don't have all the details from TC yet, so I can't tell you the exact cost or how long the preorder will be. My guess is the cost will be in the $175 to $200 US range (comparable to some $400 subs, but without the silly logos etched on the cone!). Right now I'm just trying to get a feel for how many people might like to participate.
What do you think?
Thomas
PS - THIS IS NOT SPAM. I'm not trying to make any money off of this. I just NEED these speakers!

O Audio and SoundSplinter both now sell TC Sounds subs in small quantities (this is a recent development authorized by TC Sounds). I just bought four TC2+ 12" subs from O Audio in Pflugerville, Texas. If you search TC Sounds or O Audio you should easily come up with their contact info (or I can round it up for you and post it here later).
Cheers,
Jeff

New source for TC Sounds subs
Try Todd at : oaudioinfo@oaudio.com He has the new TC2+ (that have gotten rave reviews) in stock. SoundSplinter is also about ready to offer them at a lower price soon, as I understand it.

Yes, I'm familiar with OAudio. Unfortunately, they only sell units with black cones. The natural aluminum cone is a signature look of my product, so their drivers just don't work for me.
Thanks,
Thomas

Sounds interesting. Do you have the TS parameters for the driver, and can you post a picture of the side profile of one of the drivers you have?

What about the Stryke AV12 MKII, which is said to be a revised version of the TC Sounds TC2+ with dual spiders instead of 1.

$175 each
It looks like the drivers on the barefoot site.

Re: New source for TC Sounds subs
Yep, we'll be offering the newest TC2+ model (our RL-i series) for a discount rate of $127-151 depending on quantity/cone/voicecoil specs on your order for our first few weeks on the market, in hopes to gain some solid penetration amongst the fanatics 😀NH7RO said:Try Todd at : oaudioinfo@oaudio.com He has the new TC2+ (that have gotten rave reviews) in stock. The Stryke's used to be manufactured by TC, but Stryke has had a falling out with the OEM and is now on his own. His new MKII driver is a step up from his old model, but does not accurately resemble a TC standard woofer. I have also never heard a Stryke first hand, so I can't comment fully in that respect.BrianGT said:What about the Stryke AV12 MKII, which is said to be a revised version of the TC Sounds TC2+ with dual spiders instead of 1.

Hey, thanks for all the replies!
Like I said, I really need the aluminum. It's become a signature look of the MiniMain. Unfortunately, OAudio only has them with black cones.
I believe SoundSplinter is the same. Only black, right? Any plans to carry aluminum finish? Any strings you can pull to get me some aluminum cones? I'm a loyal customer when I find a good supplier! 😀
I did consider the AV12 MKII, but they're not available. Stryke says they will manufacture their own, and have them available in 3 months. My product development experience tells me that will be more like a year - with many bugs left to work out. TC makes great drivers and they have a lot of experience. I want to stick with them, if possible.
(btw, $7850 may sound like a lot, but just considering that the Bryston amplifiers go for $5000 retail, they're quite a bargain)

Unfortunately, our plans have been to only carry the matte black cones. However, our final numbers are being sent in to manufacturing early this week, so if you want to shoot me an email with your desired type & number of aluminum coned drivers, I can surely look into the matter and see if I can get you some that will work for your project. Be quick on the draw with that email though, as we're trying to get our site launched as soon as we can and after our final numbers hit the assembly line it will be much more difficult to accomodate custom requests.
I'm not sure if the necessary parts are in stock right now to build the drivers you desire, but I will do everything I can to find out. Just drop a line to: mike *at* soundsplinter . com
Thanks for your interest 🙂

> Soundsplinter, have you actually gotten woofers yet?
We just finalized our numbers and the production order was processed late last week. I hope to have the drivers ready for shipping by this coming Friday. TC is a busy company, which is why I'll be doing my best to anticipate any low stock items ahead of time.. but I suppose only time will tell what fortunes will manifest..
*crosses fingers 😀
