Images Problems
Jason,
Great new site !!!
Everything's fine to me with my browser... except that inlined images (gif) don't display. If I explicitely ask for the image, I got it, and back to the thread, the image now displays... Same strange behavior with the avatars... I'm using Netscape 4.78 for Linux (Nobody's perfect 😀)
By the way, keep up the great work !

I use Opera 5.11. I'd like a latter version but the last time I upgraded Netscape, it ate all my bookmarks and mail.
Understandibly, I'm nervous.
What have been your experiences with Opera?

Way cool, but.....
I think there are some bugs when editing. Changing my attached
jpeg seemed to blow away my post, twice in a row. Anyone else try this and have a bug? Using IE5.5
H.H.

I agree. I've edited a reply after it was posted and the change didn't take. And this was with the old site. Needs looking into?
The inline image problem was caused because all php pages for the site were compressed by default, the inline images are served via PHP, and Netscape 4's compression support sucks. I have now turned off compression for the /forums/ directory and enabled vbulletins built in compression.
Checking in with Netscape 4.7 this appears to have fixed the problem. It will probably fix any Opera problems with inline images too, as I imagine its the same issue.
As for the editing bug, can you reproduce it? Feel free to start a "sandbox" testing thread in the "Everything Else" forum to see if you can narrow it down. I can then take it up with vbulletin.

Circlotron said:Ditto for me. I'm using Opera 5.12 and can't see some gif's I previously posted. Works just fine with IE6 though. Used to work ok with Opera.
Get Opera 6 🙂 It's out as a final (6.01) for Windows and a beta for Linux and such; and fixes minor glitches on the previous versions. Opera is my main browser now, and i'm not looking back!
BTW, Sweet work with the forum! Love the new "feel" and logo! 😀
Perfect !
Jason,
Thanks a lot, all seems to be OK now with images.
And sorry to use a "sucking" browser... 🙄

Great work Jason😀 I haven't found any problems yet (IE5.5). Nice new look and features. Those look like Vifa midwoofers or something in the new logo.
New site looks great!
Can I suggest a space or some other separator between the Thread title and the ... on the front page.
Until I read this thread, I assumed that the ... was an elipsis to indicate truncation of a long Thread title 🙂
Otherwise, looks great!
Looking forward to the Wiki. I like the proposed structure.

Yes, griff pointed out that they are vifa drivers. I've written to Vifa to get their official permission. Mind you, I did have that nice picture of the dynAudio driver on the front of the site for the past 3 years without thinking about it...
In regards to the (...) it's a tough one... there's actually an image <img src="http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/images/firstnew.gif"> alread for it but it's a bit big and to put it all over the front page would be a little overpowering.
Perhaps I should just make the link go to the last post, and remove the elipse?
I think the Wiki will be a bit quiet until more experienced people realize what it can be used for and then chip away... don't be shy with it 🙂

Jason
Could the image to the left of the thread title be used as the link to the first unread post? This would avoid additional clutter. Otherwise, your suggestion of removing the elipse and always accessing the 'first unread' would seem to be best.

I second Geoff's comment. Also perhaps the icon could appear prior to the thread title so that they would then all be in line with each other... It might help visually but i know it's all adding to the work you must do. Thanks.
Bill,
No need to be nervous about an Opera upgrade - all your bookmarks/settings are transferred for you. I think you should upgrade - I've found quite a few web pages that work more smoothly in Opera 6. The upgrade is free if you have a version 5 serial, BTW.
See ya,

FWIW I thought Opera was second rate until Opera 6 came along and then I went "Wow, this is really slick".
Jason,
I'm having troubles accessing the site. About every 2nd link i click comes up with a blank page with the words 'All content is Copyright ©1999-2002 diyAudio.com.' and nothing else. Going back and clicking on the link 3 or 4 times gets me to the page i want to see.

Thanks AF. Fixed (per our emails).
Ok, the main links on the front page now go to the last post. Clicking on the Question Mark icon on the left goes to the first thread. Perhaps a little more intuitive this way without filling the screen with junk.

Jason:
I have a request.
Rather than have a hypertext link change color or something whenever the mouse is over it, I think that you should use the "visited link" feature in HTML and have it change permanently. After all, the cursor changes to a hand when over a link and that should be sufficient.
I'd like to see where I've been.
