Price indication (might be completely wrong and just a placeholder. A bit much for my expectation and taste. Dependent on the pricing of the midwoofers and tweeters, I had expected say 129.- € or so.):

No coax fan here, waiting for a mid version of the 5" with that accordeon surround, shorter voicecoil and fat bucking magnet (that I must not put one). If it has benefits to FR and dispersion, a phaseplug instead of dustcap (not so regarding the plug shape, more so by affecting the cone stiffness and so the cone modes. Might additionally benefit to the magnet circuit if made from aluminum.). I'm curious to see the FR of the coax mid cone....

This is more trustworthy perhaps

So about 2x the price of SB17NBAC35...

That price sounds much better and is close to my expectation....

It does, especially with the removable back cover! A new mid for MEH builders perhaps?SB Audience Nero 5CCN125D, that mid looks really sexy....
I think the optimum use of this driver is between 100 Hz - 2.5 kHz, which is 4.6 octaves.
hifijim,
Nice insight, if the frequency band is limited to above 100Hz or so, Xmax will not be a limiting factor. Force factor modulation will be reduced as the travel of the cone is reduced with increasing frequency. There will be reduced modulation distortion of the mid-band voice frequencies.
I am thinking of a sealed mid-woofer on the bookshelf with a sub-woofer tucked under the desk.
Thanks DT
