Hi,
Fresnel condenser lens is for normal ohp, which have two lenses fused together.
go for the single Fresnel lens, one with 216 and one 343 mm focal length. 285x285 standard size is ok for 7" , and 310x310 is suitable for 15"
(you can cut the lens if you want to make it suitable for 7", and a smaller projector build)

hello rudraskhi,
the plan which you given its work because concept is same as normal pj have. But you should emphasis only on distance b/w focal length from triplet lense to fresnel lense and fresnel lense to lamp. You have to work out on this criteria after that you make a box whatever design you want.

Hi Guys
I just receive the final quotation from lensel today. The total price quote is 2100 Rs for two single fresnels and one triplet. What do you guys think? I would also like to inquire if anyone has had any bad experiences while dealing with lensel because I am not really sure with regards to their credibility.
All the best fellow DIYers 🙂

Hi phoenixraider,
I have brought the followings yesterday from Lensel Optics,
1. TRIPLET LENS- THREE ELEMENT PROJECTION LENS
(a) BARREL DIA : 74mm
(b) F # : 5.2
(c) EFL : 315 mm
2) SINGLE FRESNSEL LENSES – NORMAL
(a) SIZE : 285mm X 285mm
(b) FOCAL LENGTH : f = 216mm
(c) THINKNESS : t = 2.0mm
(d) PITCH : p = 0.5mm
3) SINGLE FRESNSEL LENSES – NORMAL
(a) SIZE : 285mm X 285mm
(b) FOCAL LENGTH : f = 343mm
(c) THINKNESS : t = 2.0mm
(d) PITCH : p = 0.5mm
Since I live in Pune and had an advantage of checking the lenses before the purchase. The FRESNSEL lens is fine, but I found the Triplet lens with fungus on it, so i asked them to clean it.
They sometime lack the quality but to be frank do you have any other source in India for these lenses?
Regards
Rajeev

Hello Guys,
I have designed the following plan for my first PJ. can anyone cross check the specification and let me know anything needs to be changed?
Now since I have all required lenses, I am going to buy 10" LCD panel in couple of days. I also need to kwno the followings.
1. The Fresnel Lenses are 285 X 285 MM size so do i need to cut the Fresnel to match the LCD size? if yes then how to cut it?
2. Is Tempered glass is essential to use?
3. does metal halide lamp comes with UV protection cote?
thank you for your time

Hello Rajeev
I have placed an order for the exact same Fresnels and Triplet from Lensel. I had read previously that Lensels goods lack quality at times, however your right there aren't many options available to us.
I would like to inquire as to how bad the Fungus situation was with your Triplet and also if you don’t mind could you let me know how much did the entire purchase cost you?
Thanks
Best Of Luck To Everyone

Hello Rajeev
1) I really don't know quite a lot about resizing the Fresnel Lenses.
2) Tempered glass is used to block out heat so if you plan to use a Metal Halide Lamp it will prevent the heat from damaging your LCD screen.
3) While reading this forum I had come across a DIYer who had purchase an original Osram Metal Halide Lamp with UV protection coating
Happy Hunting and Best Of Luck

Hi phoenixraider,
The fungus was not that bad but yes you could visibly see it with bare eyes, so after cleaning the fungus is gone completely. but as i told you the quality lacks in glass manufacturing, lens mount and you could see minor scratches on the lens.
The price is reasonable, I paid total rs. 1811 for one triplet and two Fresnel lens with 12.5 tax.
I might start my PJ work form next week onwards, the target is to celebrate the new year on BIG screen.
will post the pics soon

Also,
The 285mm x 285mm fresnels can not be used with a 14 or 15 inch panel. They'r sufficient for 10 inches or less.
For these lcds buy the 310mm x 310 mm fresnels
So decide what size lcd will be used first before buying them.

I have just bought OSRAM HQI-BT 400W, man its huge, i thought it will be small. Its almost 11.5" without holder, add atleast 2" to 3" with holder so while making the box consider this point.
Now you do have an option of getting smaller lamp of same wattage which is double headed lamps, I spoke to the wholesaler here in pune about the same. the double headed lamps are costing more than 3000.00 where as the single headed lamp which i bought is for merely 850.00 Now my fiend you see the difference of few inches with few thousands 🙂
