Posting Pictures of Projector and projection

Hello Friends,

i am posting pictures of the projector and the results.
I need to fix the condensor lens to improve brightness.

Also some contrast issues need to be addressed. the antiglare coating is not removed, planning to remove it. I have removed it a few cms from the corner, it coming out easily.

please tell me how u feel about the results.

The temperature is under control, tested for 6 hours continuously, the fresnel is just getting warm, with two fans (ball bearing)

will post more details later..

hi experts,

I was able to get my first projection out of a temporary cardboard enclosure. Few things which I need help with...

I am using a floodlight enclosure for my Metal Halide. So I guess the glass in front should be tempered glass. But heat in front of the light enclosure is too much till about 300mm. After which it's kind of warm only...
Now my two sheet magnifiers have focal length of around 317mm, so when I try to put them at 320mm away from light source, they do not give even light on LCD, instead project image of reflector...
I can get good light distribution only when I put fresnel about 150mm away from light source. But as I told...heat is too much at this distance. Till now I haven't put any fan for cross vanlitation, now my question is will 2 CPU cooling fans will be able to remove heat at this distance.
Also, I am using a magnifying glass in place of projection lens(triplet). It is a 6inch diameter 312mm focal length lens. So at about 3 feet distance I am getting around 14 inch of projected image from a 7 inch LCD. What can I do to increase the magnification.

thanks
prashant

alright guys....
I bought a 4" Fan from Nehru Place. It cost Rs 250/- and can run from regular 220V AC supply. I don't know about the CFM rating but this thing can throw huge amount of air.(Can be used a table fan ;-))....

Will going to try and mount this thing today and see If I can put my fresnel any closer to light source....till then...I m putting my parts list and price...(Just in case someone want to start his product)

LCD TV -7" (worldtech)-Rs 3300/-
Fresnel(2pcs) - Sheet Magnifier- Rs 260/-
Magnifying lens(6" Diameter, 312mm F/L)- Rs 350/-
150W Metal Halide(flood light enclosure & blast) - Rs 900/-

I think I can watch something on my projector tonite 🙂

does anyone know where to buy a LCD monitor/TV with atleast 800x600 resolution and it should not have any FFC issues.

I am from delhi and would appreciate if someone could guide me in right direction...also please mention the cost of the panel.....

I m looking to buy 7" or 8" LCD panel.

thanks for replying pramod,

I've already build my projector with a LCD...but it's resolution is just
480x234...so I am getting pixelated image for my 60" projection....that is why I was looking for some information....

Can I order something from US...do you know how we can get a LCD from US with custom clearance...Do I have to go to custom office to get it cleared or the courier company will collect the custom duty...

Does someone has any experience in buying it from US....if yes..then could you please explain the process to me...

thanks

Friend, Buying from the U.S is not a very difficult task. Buy the LCDs or whatever by credit card. The USPS or any other courier service will get you your parcel by post. A postman then would visit your place and will let you know the duty amount and all. Just ask the postman to bring that parcel home. And there you are with your panel. But the problem is the amount of duty. Mostly it is about a third of the MRP.I paid 1350 Rs for a S15 LL kit myself.
I guess jonzo's website is the most credible one. But the prices are too much for us INDIANS yaar.

As for panels my dear, my experience has been that the panel is the most important thing. Especially the pixel pitch. As the size of the image rises the mash like structures start looking up.That makes the entire effort worthless. I wonder how people with smaller DVD player panels enjoy larger images and if the images are not king size then the real fun somehow seems to escape at least for me.Well that's my personal perception.

thanks a ton for your reply....

so what you say is, that if I buy a $200 LCD and controller kit....approx 10000 Rs...then I would have to pay 3000 Rs for custom duty....
Now that paying part is easy...as I won't have to go anywhere....

And you are right...resolution is the one most important part of project...
And I am saying it from exp...I have build my proj...using a 480x234 LCD TV and screendoor starts appearing at about 60" projection.

The only thing I can do is to make the image a bit out of focus to reduce it...but I guess If I try making it 80" it will be all over...so I am planning to upgrade my LCD...the only problem is that can only use upto 8" of panel and I couldn't find a high resolution panel atleast SVGA in that range...well a person is selling a 8" LCD for 8000Rs on ebay.in, and he claims it to be 800x600....with VGA input...
Has anybody bought it and have any exp..about it...

Well my friend even an SVGA cannot do.I used the XGA 15" LCD and at 100" from a distance of 6 feet i could see the screendor.I hated it the most. The room i saw that in was 10x10 feet. See I think that we need atleast panels with pixel pitch as low as 0.1mm.The most famous 10.6" SAMSUNG has that.If you have the buck with you then these panels are available in NEHRU PLACE.Though they are a tad too costly. I have been waiting myself for an LCD .We need at least an XGA with as small a dimention as possible.

I suggest you try the china route , i myself got some lens from china no customs ,not sure if i was lucky or what.

And if you want to try then PM me with your email ID i would get the price quote and different variants available from the vendor .

I am planning to place an order for a 10.4 inch Toshiba LCD panel and light kit .

yes friend, The SAMSUNG's and other LCD panels are available from beyondinfinite.com. They have their office in Nehru Place. But they sell them at a huge price. Even better panels than the samsung's are available. But i guess any panel above 8000 Rs is not worth the price.
As for chinese route I am really doubtful , besides they tend not to sell anything less than 50Pcs.

Keep our fingers crossed all you DIYers.🙂
