Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you would need a reflective LCD as opposed to a projected LCD... I read that the LCD in the gameboy advance is reflective while normal laptop screens are projected... something like that. If I had bulbs for my artograph I could try it out, but I didn't order bulbs as I was just planning on using the optics from it.

I *think* the bulbs would "wash out" the image, but I could be completely wrong.

i kinda had the same idea, but since the equpment is available to me i will try it (when those bastards mail my artograph 🙁 ) i still havent recieved my artograph but i have my 5" lcd module. i dont know if its reflective or not, its tft active matrix. which artograph do u have? i ordered the designer.thanx for reply.

Plus Direct Projector
DP-15
120 V 300W bulbs x4 for a total of 1200 watts illumination

Pretty cool looking thing. I think with a fresnel, I could definately use the optics out of this thing.

However, I might get it working and resell it on e-bay to try and get money to afford a flat panel... I'm not sure though. 🙂 I really want to spend $200 on a flat panel to tear apart, but I have a hard time justifying that. 🙂

that projector sounds REALLY powerful...if only there was a way to harnest all that power.im sure with the proper bulbs and a bit of creativity, you can make a portable and BETTER lighted projector than with OHPs.(im not sure if LIGHTED is a word...lol) do u know the retail for your projector? thanx.

I acutally had a beseler opaque projector and see how well it projected my LCD screen on my Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 and the result was pretty bad. I'm not sure if the LCD was reflective or transmisive, but you could barely see the image on my wall.

I think the best thing to use for an Opaque projector would be one of those Transflective LCDs. They can have a backlight but will also reflect ambient light to enhance the image. Maybe this way you could shine some light down from the projector and then mount a light behind the LCD as well.

very doubtfull..

negative ,

i saw that picture one of the first when i was planning to make the DIY-projector. And had doubts then, especialy with the light, how it's build up.

What i think: ..if you will mirror the laydowned lcd trough the proj.lens and two bulbs shining in the box, there will be no contrast of the lcd left and it wil be a very vague picture (if it's not just only a lightbeam), couse of a not-purposal lightning.

I was trying to figure out how this setup maybe could be possible and thought about cold mirrors. The light(in a closed box) behind the under 45° placed mirror on the same hight as the projectionlens is positioned.

I dont know but maybe your projector needed more light.

Dirkje, i think you have a point..but im still optimistic. do u think that maybe this wouild be possible if the design was changed, or if the bulbs we strategicly placed?

Crash, thats a good idea, i dont knwo if my LCD is transflective or reflective,i got it from partsexpress. its a TFT ...maybe thats transflective....i dont know.

but im VERY anxious to recieve my opaque projector. it STILL hasnt come in 🙁 its been 2 weeks now...do u guys think i can cancel the order? if i cancel it i will definitely go the OHP route and make a custom installation. ThanX.

sorry, i left the pic behind..
this tell maybe more than my words but even in this setup i think the pic on the wall isn't that what you'll expect, a bit disapointing i mean=>contrast will be the most problem i guess.
btw.the IR is 90% of the total lumen that comes trough the cold mirror & sorry for the louzy draft

This is not a "new projection design concept". The image posted is from Zark's page is it not? The point is why call it NEW when you are clearly re-hashing another thread?

zardoz

i dont know if its a new concept or not. but i DO know that it is not ZARK's. i got it from audiovisualizer, and im not re-hashing any threads...i havent seen this on any threads

great image...but no video yet!

I have built an opaque/artograph or wotever u wanna call it.

Since I dont have an LCD, i used a picture cutting from da newspaper and voila - nice big image on da wall!

Now all i need is a reflective LCD i guess and this shud work......theoritically ;-)

But I wanna run it off my PC monitor.

Now if there was only a way to eliminate da glare?

Dont have an anti-glare screen, can sum1 try this out pls?

Comments and feedback on the above much appreciated!

Cheers

I read that anti glare can cost more than the whole project. I dont know any reflective LCDs ....maybe you can put a mirror behind the LCD...i would like to know how your project goes, me im no longer working on opaque projectors......

Goodluck

anti glare didnt do da job...wot next

Tried da anti glare....i can see a picture but didnt do da job exactly. Too much light is passing thru the pc monitor.

Need a reflective screen.

Any ideas on how to make a pc monitor screen reflect light off it?

Reflective lcd will surely work.....but then again cant get hold of them in this part of da world.

I dont wanna go da ohp way cuz its too easy...really no diy there.

Since I'm reflecting off da mirror....if only sumhow i cud get da picture to fall on it and da external light source to do its job and yet not glare out da picture....hmmmm

woddaya think Negative Design?

Any takers??

Cheers!

well...im no expert....
i did see some one use and OHP mirror(s) and lens to project to the wall...but i cant find the link to it...
If you want "DIY" then make a custom projector with with a projection panel and using custom light source. OHP/lcd CAN be made diy if you retrofit (which im doing)

goodluck whatever with whatever u do
