This enclosure is inferior in every possible metric to a sealed box of the same size. What the hell did you see on ebay?
Its quite common in subs to see this type of enclosure. or similar.
They often have the speaker reverse mounted.
Got it covered today.
Added carry handles and cabinet corners.
Just needs a good hoover to get rid of sawdust.

That's why you only see it in subwoofers. You're going to get cavity resonance at a few hundred Hertz at least, and your mid to high frequency response is going to be garbage after trying to make its way around that magnet structure. If you had just mounted that speaker in a sealed box facing outward, you would have a completely flat response from 100-~5khz.
I built the subwoofer just as a project to see what it sounded like.
Given we are talking about a subwoofer then 5KHz is way out of the question anyway
That's why I am going to use it with a pair of tweeters.
Despite being a sub (with no crossover) it sounds quite good playing music.
Better than I expected.

Not sure what possessed me but I just built another one.
This one uses a Fane 15-400 driver.
