Hello everyone.
I found this forum via google whilst trying to do a bit of research for a project that's been nagging at me for a while now and I'm glad I did!
I have two main interests, the first revolves around old oily things such as classic cars and old trucks (not that I can ever hope to own one). The other is listening to my Hi-Fi whenever I get the chance.
I have had my Hi-Fi for approx 12 years now and it mainly conists of:
Amplification:
Cambridge Audio C500
Cambridge Audio P500 x2
Speakers:
Mission 734i
It was being fed by a NAD C540 C.D. Player but that has recently been replaced by a home build HTPC/Media Centre with all my music (& DVD's) being transferred to a networked external hard drive in lossless format.
I have a bit of a habit of modifying my cars (performance related, not Halfords type) and the habit is creeping towards the hi-fi!
I already have plans to rewire the speakers to improve the cross-overs and take full advantage of the bi-amping.
But I need to improve the signal route from the media centre PC to the Amp. At the moment the signal travels from the PC to the TV via HDMI, then from the TV via Toslink to the Yamaha DSP E800 AV Processor. This then converts the sound to analogue and feeds the Cambrige Audio C500.
A USB DAC is required but rather than have yet another box I would like to see if I can build one into the C500. I am however a complete novice in this respect!
That's the plan anyway and I shall start posting some questions in the relevant sections on this forum.
Anyway, that's me and why I am here. 😛
Cheers.
