The colours of Spring....
...does anyone know of a test for audio 'colour'[/

A test i don't know...but i suspect that a op amp like that must be made by "kodachrome"....😀

Yes, listen to Mick Hucknell's music - it should be Simply Red! 😉

Hold a musical score behind the chip and see if appears another colour than white!

...anyway back to the topic...
rarkov i like how those blue leds/aluminum knob complete the preamp ..
i just took a closer look now .. it looks a lot more solid
that's mainly because of the knob though .. the original plastic crap is .. well, crap! 🙂
well .. aesteatically anyway .. it looks out of place, and so do the yellow led's 🙂
still haven't gotten around to lookin for blue ones .. maybe monday i will .. maybe ..

Yeah, it does look loads better - and I feel better using it if that makes sense...It seems mire at home with my system! I have changed the bolts now...DO NOT DO THIS!!!
It is very difficult to do it with no problems. Luckily I am returning one side of the case so I practiced on that...
Problem 1) Snapped a tap off inside the hole
Problem 2) Sometimes the drill bit jumps out of the space
I am sure Peter Daniel would be able to do it alright though! 😉
Mind you - now I've done it, I'm very happy with it.
P.S. I would use any bolt larger than 5mm but you could squeeze in a 6 if you were desperate!

naw .. i actually don't mind the look of the stock bolts ..
they don't stand out as much .. could be better of course 😉
do you have pics of the black ones in place?
wish i had a digital camera 🙂
one mod i had in mind though is making 3 feet for the side so i can lay it on its side .. i don't know if i want to butcher a side for that though .. knowing me i'd mess right up too 🙂
it just doesn't look too stable the way it is ..
although it is due to the moderate mass of 2.5kg and large feet 🙂

Bypass the op-amps
JasonL,
The picture of the inside of your preamp is not very clear, but it seams to me that the op-amps are not properly bypassed.
The caps are far away from the supply pins.
That has to do with the original circuit, not your fault.
Have you got something hidden under the circuit?
If not, there's no other way with that circuit.
Think of it, you may get better results.

now i might be wrong here, and not know what i'm talking about ..
but i believe that the red things are caps as well ... ?

You are right about the red components being caps - and non-electrolytic aswell...but they still aren't close enough to be effective decoupling caps.
If you look at the preamp's (our 8021) circuit, you'll see the tiny blue caps are as close as possible to the opamp - and this is one of the very good design features of the 8021 preamp - amongst many others in my opinion.

Edit:
Just general grammer! 😉
