New pioneer 1014TX with Dish receiver

I just purchased a new Pioneer 1014TX receiver and currently am using a Dish Network receiver model 501...I cannot get the optical digital out to work for the audio but will work with rca jacks....the digital out worked with my previous Sony receiver. Any suggestions???
