These are the main left-right speakers, with cheap, high-Q 15" woofers with foam surrounds (yuck...) and $2 horn tweeters. I think these were built for less than $50 apiece. If I knew then what I know now, I'dve spent more on drivers. Oh well!
These are crossed over at 2500hz, and I'm going to convert them to passive crossovery as soon as I can. Right now they're crossed over by my soundcard and I'm out of amp channels. Waah!
These are the new ones. The top one is actually my previous dipole ( http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17103&highlight=dipoles ) with the insides spraypainted black and the outsides apholstered with nagahide (sp? It's like artificial leather, sexy stuff!) and there's quilt padding under it so it's all soft and fluffy... The bottom box is the same design scaled up, using 10" drivers that I, um, inherited. (Some druggie wanted me to build him a bass cab, gave me the drivers, then fell off the planet. *cough*)
These are crossed at 170hz, first order, by my soundcard. I should probably convert them to passive crossovery ASAP, but since I still have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to passive crossovers, it will have to wait a while.
I now have full-range left-right-center setup and it makes me very happy. They can play very loud. I can fill a small field. 😀
I'm thinking about trying to do this professionally. My speakers definitely have a look all their own, thanks to the unique coverings and straight-black decor. (Techies know: everything needs to be black.) While I'm sure those in this board would rather build their own, do you think I could make a living doing this?
