If you've been waiting for somebody to take the plunge and hack into a famed RCD-990, I did so- and I'm wondering why I didn't do it sooner. Instead of using the much-touted AD825 I decided to use the AD817/826 combination in the analog output stage. Guys/gals, believe me when I tell you that this has been a massive improvement. Let me put it this way, compared to what I have now- the previous sound was unlistenable. My system is as follows:
Rotel RCD-990
Decware Zen SE84CS w/vintage 6dj8, Sovtek 5ar4, JJ el84's
B&W DM-302's
Interconnects and speaker cables made from mil-spec silver- plated networking wire
Next upgrade? the clock circuit
