Does this means the DSP decodes the DTS or AC-3 signals, and after applying DSP encodes it back to a DTS/AC-3 signal?

I bought one and it looks like it will be delivered in the next couple of days, as it is currently "processing" at the delivery station.
I am using it with an HTPC that I use XBMC with that has all of my music, movies etc. and simply set it up to decode everything multi-channel PCM before going into the nano AVR. In XBMC it is just a matter of unchecking a couple of boxes (AC3 capable receivers, DTS capable receiver) and it does the decoding internally. Most blu ray players etc. can do this as well.
Core DTS and AC-3 are lossy codecs and you wouldn't want to re-encode into that format anyway.

Hi there, no, it takes linear PCM in and outputs linear PCM. The player/source needs to do the (proprietary/lossy in some cases) decoding.
I finally set up my nanoAVR yesterday and am extremely pleased with the product and performance. This is the single best upgrade I have ever done to my system.
I have question for you about sample rate conversion though. Do you think that the onboard SRC is better than using my computer to do it on the front end? I can set XBMC to do sample rate conversion to 96 kHz and with Foobar (where I'm listening to DSD), I can resample using the SOX resampler plugin. In the case of DSD, the SACD plugin will output to PCM in multiples of 44.1 kHz.

About sample rate conversion, the onboard algorithm inside the sharc DSP is no compromise but how to compare it with the SOX resampler is hard to say since we don't know their implementation.
