Minidsp has updated their 8x12 kit with new AKM 4456 output DACs and specified 115db SNR. Maybe this will finally make them transparent and quiet enough for high efficiency active speakers? Anyone tried them yet? Promising update, and waiting for the last step of firmware upgrade to allow FIR on the sharc processor.

It looks promising for an active system but the output is hot and high impedance so I guess would need a premap. What multichannel preamp would match?
Analog audio outputs:
12 x outputs on RCA connector with anti-pop mute circuit
Max output signal 4.5 V rms @ 0 dB FS / Zout = 560Ω
Measured THD+N 0.0007%, 115dB SNR

Hmm, the included wired remote control does allow for digital volume control. Not ideal for gain structure and SNR but possible to run digital volume.
Will 560ohm Zout have any issues driving typical power amp inputs? I was thinking ideally matched to power amps with variable input gain settings.

This model is specifically designed for mobile audio applications. I will most likely use this for a car audio system build I'm planning for my new truck. Comments on the DIYMA forum confirm that the noise floor is considerably lessened compared to the previous version of the 8x12 and most likely other miniDSP products. I also have the miniDSP 4x10 HD for my 3-way active speakers and know about the poor noise floor of miniDSP products.
I'm wondering if anyone has used the 8x12 v2 in a home audio environment. I could only find one nugget of info on this here:
https://www.minidsp.com/forum/cdsp-series/16666-c-dsp-8x12-v2-in-a-home-hifi#45865I sent a question about home use to miniDSP but have not yet heard back from them.
The capabilities of this product make it extremely interesting to me for some complicated multi-way home audio loudspeaker systems. I can certainly power it with a low-noise linear PS as advocated by devTeam's post.
Has anyone used this product for home audio?

This product will work amazing in home audio…..
First off , the noise floor of a good quality ac/dc converter can be miles ahead of a noisy 12v system with an alternator a d spark plugs! Eww!
and the higher voltage output will drive your amps and make them very happy.
560ohms isn’t “high impedance “ either …. (Meaning I’ve seen much worse like 10kohms) eww
the signal is hot… I won’t lie…. But with the amount of dsp signal cuts made along the way you’ll see about 2v to your amps , at higher volumes… normal listening it’s more like .5v or so……
it has the headroom to not clip, that’s a good thing especially with the Dirac live model available now…
it’s a multi channel wet dream

One should be careful about how to implement this DSP unit. I agree that it has great specs. The problem is that both the input and the output are floating, differential type. This can lead to problems when connecting it to amplifiers that expect a ground referenced signal. I asked miniDSP about using the unit for home audio and they mentioned this. If you use balanced amps, there will be absolutely no problem. OTOH if you have consumer amps you may experience significant hum. This product will work amazing in home audio…..

aah indeed…. I thought there were jumpers in the dsp for that, I was wrong. The jumpers are for input voltage on high level.
so would a ground loop isolator work? It would provide isolation and let the ground on the return on amp not mess with it…
everything I’ve read on GLIs is they have zero influence on the audio signal quality.
But that’s just reading peoples opinions. I couldn’t find any fact based I go online about them…. But I have used GLIs in a pinch with good success
