My name is JD and I live in Northern California. I am a recovering engineer with a long history in electronic warfare systems integration. I own a TV-7 Tube Tester, a Tek 465 and a lot of other test gear. My hobby of restoring old radios is winding down due to less availability of suitable projects. I've been restoring antique test gear lately. Last year, I was asked to work on a couple of tube amps for a friend and got interested in DIY Audio. I am a hands-on type that likes to build things; mechanical, electrical or electro-mechanical, I enjoy the craftsmanship aspect of creation; from scratch and/or a collection of parts. For example: I built my own sidecar rig (http://tiny.cc/SidecarDog) from a pile of parts and raw materials.
Frankly, I have a very low opinion of some of the snake oil and techno-babble I've seen used on many of the "audiophile" forums. I only pay attention to perspectives that are founded on a law of physics or a proven psycho-acoustic principle . My brother suggested I come here for a BS-Free experience.
I'm an RF guy and have a lot to learn so please bear with me. I'm interested in critical listening skills, hardware design, loudspeaker design, speaker placement, room treatments and acoustic measurements.
