Awesome info josh! Thanks always helpful!
So how do you like the driver? Or you haven't used it yet, only ran tests?

Hi guys,
On the manufacturer page you can find a helpful drawing. In that drawing the top plate is 10mm and the distance to the backplate is 50mm. With the given Xmax of 12.75 mm this suggests a VC height of 35.5mm. From there you can calculate the Xlim:
50mm (backplate distance) minus 17.75mm (1/2 VC height) = 32.25mm (one way).
Xlim = 32.25 mm
About the Xvar, you would have to measure it. You can make a theoretical indication about its physical capabilities but that doesn't say anything about its linear behaviour.
But at the best this driver could have a usable excursion of about: (Hvc – Hg) / 2 + 1/2Hg = 17.75 mm. But with a Cms of only 0.15 mm/N, a Mms of 429.9 gram and a BL of 20.4 Tm that looks a little optimistic.
(edit: with usable excursion I mean excursion that transfers into real dB's)

Well that's pretty close to Josh's findings...he said about 20mm or so. I'm sure josh will chime in with more info on distortion etc once he plays around with it more.
Jep, that is in line with Josh his findings. Must say it's a heck of a Home Theatre driver for just 250$. Hopefully it will find its way to Europe soon.
Happen to run any sims on this horn loaded? The cone sure seems stiff enough, but I'm not so sure the motor is strong enough to push this with a decent amount of compression...
No not yet. For Tapped Horns or PA subs I wouldn't use it since the suspension is too weak like its motor as you mentioned, but for home use I think it's a monster.
Well I guess I'll see how I like it sealed with some EQ, and if necessary for a larger room I can just build multiples!
Used in sealed enclosures it wouldn't suprise me you would actually have usable 17 mm excursion since the air-spring (acoustic suspension) would help a lot for this driver.
Well Europe Audio stocks the other subs from this line, I guess it's only a matter of time until they stock it. If you're in a rush it might be worth asking when/(if) they will get it in stock. The value isn't quite as high as if from PE though.
RE the xmax, the same overall motor parts are used across the entire range, so they all have the same figures. Still it's one heck of a sub for the money.

LoL well I'm in a second floor apartment now. Can't do anything but low level listening...so the house should stay intact for now 😀
I read a post by GM a while back about how he destroyed his house...pretty scary!

Hi m R g S r,
Post #52: "...I'm in a second floor apartment now..."
Leave the rear panel removable for a little dipole action.

It's only for 10 more months. I plan on revamping in the near future. My main speakers (front L/R) will be upgraded along with, like I mentioned, multiples of this design.
For now I think the sealed 225L box with the power I have available will be plenty!

There arent many drivers in the 18" range with shorting rings so its a bargain regardless.

Yep. Pretty close indeed. Really for $250 I think this is a hell of a bargain. Triple shorting rings in the motor plus the seemingly good linearity of the suspension components should result in low distortion. We will see. I have listened to it in a sealed enclosure for a while and I heard nothing to complain about, quite the opposite really.
Did I mention that this thing also looks very nice? No fugly graphics or gaudy logos. Mounted in an enclosure it looks great.
Got some bracing cut and the driver fitted...
didn't have a large enough piece of wood to go front to back of the cabinet, so i will glue and clamp the remaining piece to attach to the rear of the enclosure.
funny it looks small in this pic, its far from it 😀

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
