Just joined here. In my 40's and have had a love of audio for years. Had a lot of great equipment over the years and enjoy tinkering with mechanical stuff more than electrical.
Currently my audio options are limited since we moved about 6 years ago into a house without a good dedicated listening room space. Anyone out there with ideas on how to pack music quality in without offending the wife - I'm all ears.

We are all looking for that. Let us know if you're any better at figuring it out. I just don't understand why she thinks that great big speakers in every corner of the house doesn't look great. I think it's a masterpiece.

LOL - I'm glad I could start things this way.
As though that wasn't bad enough - I'm a big planar speaker fan. I had a set of Infinity 2.5 RS's when my wife and I started dating. And I've always wanted a set of Maggies... My wife hates the electronics also - and wants them hidden away out of sight... argh.
She's happy for me to have the stuff - as long as I have a man cave for the stuff. We're thinking of a garage conversion to a game room and if we do that I may get to put some "ugly" electronics and speakers into the space.

I get a bit of a break in that the wife is a big HT fan - so I'm working on a design that combines a HT center with bookcase and nice doors to hide stuff (electronics) behind. The speakers will be OB but will "fold" away into the bookcase when not in use. In other words I'm elevating the game to a high level of audio performance and SAF! I'm working on a couple of Steve Dunlap's "Krill" 50W monoblocks for the mid and high frequencies and will go with a plate amp for the woofers.
I notice that you are sorta close in NC so we might get a chance to meet someday. I see in your bio that you have something to do with rockets. Uncle "Buddy" was an engineer for NASA and played around with the Saturn and the Lunar Rover. I got to play around with the toy in the attached photo. BTW - that is me in the photo - I think I was around 9 or 10 at the time. :bs:

My SO has figured out the compromise and how to live with a speakerholic.
Her thoughts:
He has a hobby - one that isn't likely to end him up in the hospital. One that keeps him away from the TV remote.
If I interfere or nag too much he will say: "See ya honey, heading off to meet the boys for a drink"
He should be able to enjoy the fruits of his labour and not just in the man cave.
Maybe I can live with one set of speakers in the livingroom.

My dad lives in K'ville TN so there's that as well.
I'm a rocket nut. I build and launch them. Great picture! There is a great rocket launch in Manchester TN later in June of this year. That is a great introduction to High Power Rocketry if you ever want one. Also visit this site: www.rocketryplanet.com and tell them about your Uncle and your experience. Wow!
