new fullrange driver from emspeaker

Michel Fertin, the former owner of Fertin Audio, known for

its field coil line of driver has introduced a new

12 inch (30cm) - high efficiency (98db) -16 ohm -

fullrange (40hz-15khz) driver.

Match a light cone (34gr) with a strong field coil motor and

you get a very dynamic sound.

A whizzer cone keeps the coherence in the sound:

Michel Fertin prefer a gradual cone break up to do the hf than

the adding a tweeter with all the problems it implies.

He has design an open- baffle and a cabinet plan for the

diy.

Hi, as for the bass; the LB12ex has a variable voltage so

the Qts can be increased by lowering the voltage; on the other

hand you loose a bit in efficiency. The Fertin 20ex has a Qts

of .45 and I would not consider it has being soft bass , quite

the opposite. I listen at 10V so the Qts would be near .4,

acceptable I think.

There's always the option of building a cabinet; but open-baffle

sound is the only option for me.

Field coil (strong motor)+ high efficiency+ light cone; these

are the characteristics of the Fertin sound.

Everything is a compromise; the main thing is to get a great

midrange and compromise with the lf and hf. No fullrange

does everything 100% right but it's the overall sound that

is important: fast- detail- alive and with great tonality.

I like the specs, but with a Qt of about 0.215 & a mass corner of ~350Hz, I'm not sure a TL would be such a good idea TBH if you want to get some bass out of them. Plenty of other options open though of course & you could always Eq them via whatever means you like to allow you to use them in other cab. types.

Yes, I've noticed that also , no whizzer and 18khz.

I need to get this info myself. The emspeaker website

is : www.emspeaker.fr/

The LB7 have just been released so the info is not on the

website; but you can ask Michel Fertin or Katy at the website

or ask questions here. I'll get the answer since I'm in contact

with them. They're have a introductary offer: free shipping but

only the continental USA...

Michel Fertin is on vacation, back Monday, to answer the questions
about the Emspeaker LB12 and LB7.

So Titinus, you bought 4 emspeaker LB12 at a discount.....
Discount there's no better way then asking.....
How did you set them up? Home theater?
I've just finished my basement floor and my LB12 are going
for my home theater; need to buy one more ...hope to get
a discout...at least free shipping even if I'm in Canada.

No, didnt buy :bawling: but am now again considering the LB12 as a mid fore a big 3way with 18" woofer and a CD/waveguide
Pricee at the time was 750EUR fore a pair, which I think is OK...BUT, I can get a pair of Faital 12" at half that price, which means that the price of a pair of LB12 will almost get me both 12" and CDs...but the LB12 sure is interesting and wish I knew more details about used materials and build quality

With such drivers I think the major issue is powerhandling as they are intended fore different use than a power-speaker

well, that debate may not belong in fullrange forum....in my youth long ago I was a dedicated fullrange guy, which I am no more....heck, I can also get 12" 99db Beyma fullrange at 90EUR ...if only money wasnt an issue :clown:
