i don’t care — mine are originals — i probably have another 20 i haven’t yet had the heart to recycle yet.. They are not that uncommon. And after i am done they sound better.

And that is the point. What is the end result? A speaker is a collection of a huge number of variables/compromises and what is important is how well does the device connect us to the music.

Over here Admirals sold a ton of Tunnel Reflex speakers, so they are a main source. Sony TCcorders have Corals, and there is a Monarch that comes w a pair of 16Ω. Akai has a tunnel Reflex like speaker, some Radio Shack. and there are many others. This 4” market was huge in its time so they are everywhere if you know where to look. A range in quality as well.

Get worked. Sort your attitude out and try addressing people politely. When you have done so, you will indicate where I referred to the mass attainment of 500°C by magnets in moving coil loudspeaker drive units. You will find it a mite difficult I fear.
You should read your messages again. At first you began to argue that Alnico has more coercive power than neodymium. But when I cited diagrams showing that Alnico is inferior in magnetic characteristics to all other modern materials, you started talking about a temperature of 500 degrees Celsius. By the way, I did not write before, but the fact that I brought the maximum possible temperature of the magnet at 65 degrees Celsius relates to a 1200 W ND subwoofer for a night club. As you can see, there are no problems with a temperature of 500 degrees, and, accordingly, there is no dignity of alnico in acoustic systems regarding temperature. At the expense of rudeness, it seemed to you, and it’s already been noted here, you simply don’t know how to lose and it hurts you. A man must be able to keep the blow, this is how he differs from the ladies.

25 years ago when I graduated from mid-fi and began my misadventures into high-end audio, a well-respected importer, dealer and audio review writer I'd chat will at audio shows and audio society shin-dings told me AlNiCo magnets were used back in the "Westrex" "golden age of audio" because AlNiCo focus the magnetic field into the gap better and with more strength than ceramic magnets. Part of the reason high-efficiency drivers achieve high TS parameter SPL ratings. That AlNiCo magnets are difficult to produce because the Cobalt in the mix is a very hard metal so AlNiCo magnets are a lot of work to machine on a lathe.

Alnico, by definition, cannot focus the field in the gap of the magnetic system better than other magnets. These are marketing tales, which snake oil does not have competitors. Moreover, the gap of the magnetic system, on the contrary, eliminates saturation, which eases the load on the magnet, and not vice versa. Rather, it is easier for the Alnico magnet in a magnetic system with a large gap to create the necessary field strength. Therefore, it is used, especially since people love large and beautiful toys, for example, a Porsche car, which the neighbor does not have. I already said that my friend has a company that produces columns from ferrite and alnico. Since the moving systems are the same, he can easily compare the merits of a particular magnet, but he honestly told me that he had never heard the difference in sound between them. I gave approximate maximum operating temperatures for a number of magnets, not just AlNiCo. In fact, you may note them from the Dura Magnetics site. Because the entire point, which you presumably didn't consider before starting to pontificate in my direction, was in reference (as I've now said 3 times) to temperature. Note phrasing. AlNiCo is basically superior at high temperatures. Note phrasing. And I further note, you have not yet indicated where you claim I was applying this to moving coil drive units. Because I didn't, and it wasn't.

What on Earth are you talking about? Is this some kind of competition you are engaged in that I am unaware of, where there are winners and losers? On second thoughts, don't tell me, I don't want to know. But you have been deliberately insulting three times now: get over yourself and be civil, like everyone else is.
 
So do I. As I noted in the sentence you quote. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it?

What I mean? Simple. AlNiCo is superior, or perhaps I should say more consistent / stable to neodymium, ferrite & SmCo at high temperatures. No more than that. It was not intended to be applied to drive units or any specific, it was meant as a general point of fact. This should not be read as a statement that it is superior in other respects, since it isn't, and relevance is context dependent (context being something I seem to refer to in a large number of my posts, so the irony is not lost on me that on one of the relatively few times I failed to clearly note context, I get people moaning. There is a lesson here... 😉 ).

I imagine it will take a guy such as MarkAudio's Mark Fenlon who apparently hasn't paid much attention to us, laypeople, requesting an AlNiCo option, thus not perpetuating the AlNiCo myth and to create higher efficiency drivers for us in part by utilizing inherently stronger NdFeB or SmCo magnets???
 
Alnico has no advantages in sound, and also in characteristics over other magnets. And especially Alnico loses to the neodymium. My friend, a speaker manufacturer from Hungary, told me that he only produces them because of marketing. By ear, he also does not hear any advantages of Alniko even before ferrite.
But it is well known that in just 5 years, the Alniko magnet loses its magnetization by 20%.
Neodymium does not lose at all.


LOL, I also made them due to marketing, Alnico are expensive and difficult to custom make, and cast alnico need to have molds which is additional tool cost
