New Build

Ok, so here is the first of the pair...Using the much maligned RS 40-1284E five inch driver. It's setup as aperiodic as you can see with the one-inch "port" stuffed tightly, as is the inside...it comes out to be 17.08 Liters inside.
I'm trying to do aesthetics as best I can, it does need some touch-ups...one can't be brutal, things scratch & gouge too easily...
Time to hook it up to my Carver TFM-15CB...& take it easy with the gain.

I chased down "Radio Shack 40-1284" on searches...after reading lines upon lines of back & forth conversation...I recall someone did a 0.6 cubic foot with an inch stuffed port...if I recall, 55 hertz cropped up...perhaps aperiodic "tuning"...OR an f3, with some listening, it could easily be an f3.
Running them at P1 , on a chair, four feet from a wall, twenty inches off the floor...when I start moving it closer slowly towards the wall, pick your LF level!

Listening to music, finding tracks which highlight potential shortcomings...Used Dire Straits, Communique album..."Follow me home", the three-note bass-line which comes in a little over a minute into the track...It sounds great, the first three go up in scale, the second three go down in scale. Unfortunately the last note on the down-scale was attenuated...(Eighteen inches from the back wall, still twenty inches in elevation)
No obvious hot spots nor deficiencies, of course there is the beaming effect at HF, but not as severe as I had anticipated.

Rick, after they are broken are you interested in tweaking the drivers?

The 98¢ whizzer trick (reversible) is an easy one. Damping the basket as well. Felt on the inside of the basket legs.

I have yet to find any whizzer cone driver does not benefit from phase plugs and a thin coat of MidPodge will halp as well.(neither reversible)
