Hello,

I have a question about adding a neon lamp as a power indictor between the mains and power transformer on a tube amp. If I do this will it induce hum or noise or cause other problems with the system? The line voltage is 125 and the Neon is rated at 125v.

Assuming you're speaking of a packaged neon lamp indicator that has an internal resistor to function on 125 volts, place it across the transformer primary after the power switch. (Between implies a series connection which would be wrong) Just be certian to keep the wiring close to the chassis and away from low level signals like the input connector to avoid inducing hum pickup by these circuits.

I guess the Transformer has no low voltage out, because if it does then why a neon? LED with resistor on low voltage out, if its on AC a use a reverse connected diode across LED and resistor in series with the two? 6V lamp? If its just because you like the neon use correct resistor in series with it across the supply keep it away from input circuits. 🙂

It's the one piece unit designed to operate at 125v. I prefer the Neon lamp for the amp, goes better with the tubes. Just curious if it would inject noise or other issues by attaching before the transformer.

You won't notice it inject anything into the Tx. However it will produce RFI ie it is a transmitter of radio type noise that can pick up on your input circuit. So use it but keep it away from any input / pre amp tubes or volume controls. 🙂
