John if you sandblast it it will ruin the anodise as well as the fine satin finish, which is achiever by glass bead blasting, a softer process. I Think what might look very smart is to place a gold or silver mirror finished and engraved name plate over the Dun Mei printing.
As "ancient" as the design is, I believe that it has stood its stead as a reference audio design. It has every characteristic of very musical amplifier.
I see your screw terminal power transistor connector. Did you envisage replacing these transistors often? Do not worry, mine runs continuous on a single pair of MJL3821A

Screw terminals were used as the pinout on the pcb was different - seemed the easiest way to attach the output devices...and I can try different ones very easy too.
John,
Nice build!! I am planning to use the same case, where did you get yours? Your layout is almost identical to what I am thinking!! I am still contemplating whether I should go with a dual mono approach since there are sufficient space in the case. Are the heat sink that come with the case doing a proper job of disspiating the heat? What made you switch out the 2SC5200? Is it necessary to use matched pairs of power transistor? Hey, the screw terminals for the transistors are convenient.
I have been trying to come up with a way to deal with the engraving on the face plate. One probably can remove all the black lettering using a small grinding stone with a small rotary tool. However, back fillng the void is going to be difficult. I came to the same conclusion as Nico - cover up the letters with a small metal plate with some kind of pattern/drawing/lettering etc.
Keep us posted on your opinions on the amp after you have done some critical listening.

I got the case off fleabay. It was about $180 shipped from China. Real cheap. There were even a few taps missing on top of the cover. Definitely not as good as the stuff at Modus shop

The Modu shop chassis are a tad bit more expensive, but much more sturdy and nicer...at least the Dun Mei sinks seem up to the task of dissipating all that heat...2.25A quiescent (backed it down a tad) and 27 volt rails.
I didn't use the 2SC5200, as these FJL4315 are identical...I will try other transistors in the future...
