I bought a Adcom GFP-565 preamp and all is good except a scratchy pot. It is not bad and has cleared up some with use. However I can't let it slide! So I was wondering if anyone can suggest a replacement that would work for that pot. The ALPS model number is 051C-4170A07 50kX2. It is a 6 pin pot. I would be surprised if that was number was still able to be found so a quality replacement will also do.

Not gonna be easy, the volume control in the GFP-565 is "tapped" -- for the "Contour" control. Abandon the "Contour" option and buy one of the units online via Ebay.
I may have made a mistake. It could be a 8 pin. Looking at the pics I took of the underside of the circuit board for VR204 it seems it is 8.

Holy zombie post Batman!
5 years down the line, what was your solution? I‘m having similar issues with both my 565‘s - little crispy/crackly in the volume pots (despite disassembling, cleaning, lubing), I thought I‘d look around here and elsewhere on the web.
Next step is to call ALPS and ask.
Thanks in advance.
@PreCD
Did you every find a substitute?
I’m still having issues with ONE pot, it cleans up nicely, then the crispy crackly sound comes back (only on about the first 5 degrees of rotation. I’ve measured the DC offset on the bypass output and it starts around 23mV, going to about 0.5mV in short order), other box is fine.
This looks like the right replacement:

Except the VR204 pot has 3 pins noted on back (while it really has 4 x 2), wondering if you actually replaced yours and what effects you noticed.
Thanks.
