Bit more info please unless a 2N3055 will do.
You need the same pin out and package size?
What supply voltage are you using?
How much current at what supply voltage do you need to deliver?
If you can tell us the application that would help too.

the obvious solution is parallel more BDs with a little emitter degen for good current sharing

Ordinarily I would share the sentiment but if you don't know the properties of the BD139 then you can hardly recommend a better alternative, eh?So you are going to make us have to look up the BD139 to find out what those specs are?
The BDX37 is pretty similar, but has half the thermal resistance of a BD139:

Well, I don;t know. He isn;t looking for a drop in exact replacement, he is looking for something similar with larger dissipation rating. I am not so sure that not having the characteristics of the particular part in my head disqualifies me from doing here what I have to do on a regular basis on my bench - come up with a reasonable substitute for a part.
if it is a secret, then I guess I will never learn those properties, and will never be able to offer a useful insight. My work is largely in pro audio, and we don't see so many transistors from the BD series, we mainly see American numbers and Asian numbers. But I think consumer audio works in similar fashion.

Hi, can you tell me what you are using it in or what it is for, nobody has asked you this. I used to use these in my diy amplifiers back in the 80's, but if my memory serves me correct i used a BD711 or BD712 but I had to turn it round as I think the Base and Emmiter is opposite to the BD139.But there are other factors eg - is it mounted on a heatsink.

Euhhh, Hitachi 2SD669, 20W in the same TO126 deal as the BD139.
(for five bucks or the cell phone number of a sleazy waitress i'll crunch out a couple more)
