Need to use a earphone for my Plasma TV

I need to use a earphone to watch TV while my wife is asleep, but couldn't find any earphone plug on the TV. Anyway I still can do this? Can I simply 'modify' my earphone jack to RCA type and plug to the Audio Out? will this work?

Either way, get a jack socket that the headphone jack plugs into. Get one or two RCA plugs. Make an adapter. Or you may be able to buy a ready made jack->RCA adapter.

Problem is to mute (silence) the speakers in the TV... Maybe you can do this from the control menu. Maybe you have to open the TV and put in switches. Not so good, but possible.

I have earphone with a 'simple' volume control. I can just turn off the speakers volume and still be able to adjust the volume through this control. Should this work? I mean turn down the speakers volume wouldn't turn down the RCA output, right?
