Need to learn the basics

I'm VERY interested in the DIY stuff, and would like to build a subwoofer. I've dug around and played with unibox and stuff but I'm totally lost with the meaning of it all. Is there a place to read up on the basics of this stuff? What f3 is, xmax, all that stuff? I really need a starter guide!
