Hi all,
I finally realized today that a linear low distortion amplifier is not suitable for guitar
soi have been searching the web for a good solid state pre amp schematic based on jfet. I found several single jfet designs but I am looking for something fancier. After all I am willing to pay for for than just a single jfet 🙂
But I could not find a single design that other people have built and are satisfied and I wonder how is this possible? After all this no rocket science🙄
I would like to hear if any one have experience with such amp with tone controls, gain control, bright and it that sounds good.
cheers,
Eli

Look at this one by Rod Elliot. Many people have built it with good results 100W Guitar Amplifier (Mk II) .
I have built two of them, bought them from ebay, with bass/mid/treble. I checked them with oscilloscope and they look great but sound bad. I think guitar amplification should not be hi fi. I am not saying you can't do a guitar preamp from opamps - I just have bad experience - but I may be wrong...
The Peavey Renown 400 is my Favorite SS guitar preamp !! 😉
If I didn't already have one I would build one.
Using one tube and some opamp's the Marshall VavleState 8100 is my other most favorite SS preamp of all time!!
Since the one I had got stolen, I plan on building one of these sometime soon! 🙂
FWIW
