I was thinking of building a sealed(2.2 ft3) (golden ratioed)-down firing subwoofer with the 15" Avalanche from http://www.ascendantaudio.com/ for my room(1120ft3).
This sub would be used in conjunction with my Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 Loudspeakers. They have an anechoic frequency response of 69Hz - 20kHz +/- 3dB. If we take a look at 3rd party measurements we can see they have a bad SPL drop off @ 100Hz. http://www.soundstagemagazine.com/m.../ascend_cbm170/
I wanted to set the crossover on my Onkyo TX-SR602 @ 100Hz so I would need the sub to be clean up to 180Hz (full octave above the crossover point)it looks like it can do it on paper http://www.ascendantaudio.com/Avala...led graph.htm
- I know my mains would have to be flat or nearly flat to 60Hz but ascend claims Typical In-Room Frequency Response to be 63Hz - 20kHz +/- 3dB.
BTW I plan on powering the sub with a QSC RMX 850 - 830W @ 4 ohms in bridge mono mode
http://www.qscaudio.com/products/amps/rmx/rmx.htm
and EQing it with a behringer FBQ2496
http://www.behringer.com/FBQ2496/index.cfm?lang=ENG
(pre-order for $150 here http://www.music123.com/Behringer-F...ic?affil=chrisb or http://www.bananas.com/productdetai...YER-PRO-FBQ2496)
Now this EQ is not due out till Apr 15 so I have some time to maybe wait for the 12" Ava in hopes of a better frequency response from 100-180Hz AND possibly a lower inductance.
Should I wait for the 12" Avalanche that is coming out soon or will I be good with the 15"?
(more specs for 170s here http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/cbm170/cbm170specs.html)
