Looks like a soft clipping circuit. When the signal goes large (positive or negative) the diodes start to conduct, which puts current through the transistors. The transistors have a squishy supply (22kohm resistors feeding in), so you can't put much current through before the voltage at the input is pulled down.
I could be wrong, though - I prefer to work with wood and speakers rather than electronics.
