Need help with triamping Divine 100.49 speakers

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post 🙂

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post thread though.

I need some guidance/advice from the experts. I am a beginner with little knowledge of tri-amping. I would appreciate any contributor to this thread. So, thanks in advance.

I want to get the optimum output out of the XTZ Divine 100.49 speakers by active triamping them and tuning/tweaking them using the measurement tool (room analyzer II pro from XTZ). However, I am a beginner in this kind of stuff and I would appreciate the help.

I recently bought ATI AT3007 amplifier, I will dedicate it for the center, surround and rear speakers. I recently bought Active Crossover from Rane. The model is AC 23S from a local supplier. However, the local supplier advised me to use MOSFET amplifiers.

I’m not sure what’s the best possible option, I need to buy amplifiers now and I would like to have some guidance. Here are the specs for the speaker:
  • Type: 3-way speaker, two 10" drivers as woofer, one 7" midrange and one
  • 25 mm/1" tweeter.
  • Dimensions: 432 x 1240 x 600 mm / 16.7 x 48.4 x 23.6 inch (W x H x D) (with feet)
  • Weight: 70 kg / 154 lb (pcs)
  • Impedance: 4-8 ohm
  • Nom. impedance: 4 ohm
  • Min. impedance: 3 ohm
  • Frequency Range: 25 (20) - 25.000 (25.000) Hz - Anechoic (typical room)
  • Efficiency: 89 dB
  • Crossover frequencies: 250 Hz / 2500 Hz
  • Filter: 2nd order (12 dB/oct.) for the midrange. 3rd order (18 dB/oct.) for woofers & tweeter.
  • Magnetically shielded: No
  • Binding post: Gold-plated tri-wiring / Pole screw / Banana plug / Spade (Fork)
  • Power: 900 W Short term IEC 268-5, 450 W Long term IEC 268-5
  • Tweeter: Visaton ceramic dome tweeter. Magnetically shielded. Weight 1kg.
  • Midrange: Thiel & Partner C173N-T6-90, Neodymium magnet. Weight 3kg.
  • Woofer: SEAS, aluminum cone, aluminum frame, high flow basket, 3 kg magnet. Weight 4kg.
  • Front baffle: 38mm, Back baffle: 75mm, Side MDF at least 30 mm, M6 Spikes
  • Color: Black Piano & Walnut Veneer

You can find Tweeter specs here: KE 25 SC - 8 Ohm

You can find Midrange specs here: accuton® Carefully selected loudspeaker drivers.

You can find Woofer specs here: H1209-08 L26RFX/P

I have few questions concerning each amplifier:
  • Tweeter amp:

  • What is the maximum wattage RMS for this driver?
  • At what ohm (4, 6 or 8)?
  • What class (A, AB, C, D)?
  • Should I get Standard transistor like ATI AT3000 or MOSFET or Tube?
  • Which amplifier specifically do you advise me to buy for this driver? And why do you recommend this amp in particular?

  • Midrange Driver amp:
  • What is the maximum wattage RMS for this driver?
  • At what ohm (4, 6 or 8)?
  • What class (A, AB, C, D)?
  • Should I get Standard transistor like ATI AT3000 or MOSFET or Tube?
  • Which amplifier specifically do you advise me to buy for this driver? And why do you recommend this amp in particular?

  • Woofer amp:
  • What is the maximum wattage RMS for this driver?
  • At what ohm (4, 6 or 8)?
  • What class (A, AB, C, D)?
  • Should I get Standard transistor like ATI AT3000 or MOSFET or Tube?

I need to setup the crossover. I have attached the Rane manual for your reference. I would like to have a startup baseline and then I will use the measurement tool or my ear to tweak it. I have the following queries to determine my baseline:
  • MASTER LEVEL control: what level should I set it?
  • LOW LEVEL control: what level should I set it?
  • LOW DELAY control: what level should I set it?
  • LOW / MID crossover frequency selector: what frequency should I set it?
  • MID LEVEL control: what level should I set it?
  • MID DELAY control: what level should I set it?
  • MID / HIGH crossover frequency selector: what level should I set it?
  • HIGH LEVEL control: what level should I set it?

I would appreciate your time and efforts in response to the above.

Thanks,

Abdulla

You need to start somewhere, here is my first impressions.
You have a good equipment, starting with the speakers certainly, lo and behold...
Have fun.
3-WAY active project:

10" Woofers (parallel) Seas H1209-08 L26RFX/P – 126/130W (RMS)
each driver specs
Long Term Power Handling * 125 W
Short Term Power Handling * 300 W
You can use a 130W (260/300W max.) RMS power amp (for each stereo speaker.) for 3/4 Ohms (parallel connected), this with spec Xmax, you have the ability to go more than doubled instead (35mm excursion p.p. vs. 14mm p.p.) so giving a overall of 260W or 300W (to 350W) a good choice if playing hard (more distortion from the speaker, ports are to the back in this case).

7" Accuton C173-6-090 mid
driver specs
Power handling 120 Watt - Xmax 5mm
You can use a 120W (spec from manufacturer, more with high pass), 120W/150W to 240Wmax. (Short Term?) RMS power amp 8 Ohms (nominal), a 200W power amp or less would be just fine with me.

1" Visaton KE 25 SC - 8 Ohm Tweeter
80W to 140 Watt Peak power handling with high pass (RMS)

You have two channels not used in the main amp. Maybe you would need only one more amp or 4 channels total. This semi-active configuration also has very good results from your speakers p.12 on the pdf. But, that's not me to decide...

Hey man, thank you so much for your contribution. I appreciate it.
I have couple of queries, I’m relatively new to this kind of stuff and I may sound dumb 😀 so bear with me 😀
  • What is Xmax and what should I do with it?
  • The entire speaker is rated at 4 ohms impedance but some drivers are rated at 8 ohms so which should I consider? amps with 8 ohms output or 4 ohms output?
