Hi everyone,
I have been looking for a decent turntable that is not too expensive and have come across a Dual CS-5000.
Could anyone please share thier knowledge and impressions of this turntable, to include it's machanical build and sound quality.
I understand that Dual turntables can be very challeging to set up properly and keep it set up. I really do not want a turntable that I will have to recallibrate every time I want to play it.
I have never owned a Dual turntable, so I am hoping that someone here can give me some advice.
I have a very solid equipment shelve that has three layers of MDF laminated over with formica as the top shelf, this rack sets on a concrete slab floor.
And last, are there any tweaks that would work well with this Dual table, like rewire the tonearm Ect?
Thanks
Norris Wilson

Hello Norris,
I don't have a CS-5000 but I have two Dual, a CS-522 and a 1219 (with others turntables). Dual are very good turntables when they are well used.
I have tweak my CS522 with a new chassis in MDF, very heavy, a AC filter and tar in chassis. I use a Shure Mx97 with it and a valve preamplifier. Set up once, it turntable is very stable and never puts out of order itself. It's the same for 1219. It's a caracteristic of Dual, very reliable.
For arm, I think to rewire it with "fil de Litz" but I have not try yet.
Dual CS-5000 are top-of-the-range of Dual, so I think that if I have very good results with 522, you will have very good results with 5000.
Regards
Pascal.

I gave a cs5000 away...
and know it well.
Pleasant to listen to. The real weakness is the arm (or more correctly the bearings). Much of it is made of plastic painted to look like metal. The internal wiring is poor. The ability to tweak it is minimal.

The suspension is really just sprung feet.
Having said that the speed stability is excellent, and electronic switching of 33/45/78 .
The mechanics of the arm are a little clunky as well.
