Hi everyone
i am a newbie in this forum and need your wisdom and help in maybe a simple matter but here what is the problem. I just got the Cambridge MAGICDAC 2 (on EBay) when the power is on there is a lot of hum / noise at the outputs. At first i thought it might be a loose ground connection or something like that but no after checking all ground connections with a multimeter, it is OK. I do not have the schematics to check each stage. When hooked up by the digital input SPDIF to a cd trans the music gets by and it's not distorted.but the hum is louder then the music. Maybe the opamps are dead (ad712) All the LED indicators show that the dac is LOCKED 44.1. etc. I did not try the balanced output cause i do not have the means to do it so I am stuck to RCA cinch output. Does anyone have the schematics or experienced such a thing.
Funny thing I just discovered that also when the power is turned off still the hum is there even when the mains plug is taken out of the wall socket, while still hooked up to the amp. I have changed the amp from Tube to solid state thinking it might be the amp ground loop hum but no again on both amps it is the same hum. turned ON or OFF.
So it's the MagicDac .
Any advice welcomed

Caution with RCA socket!!!
Hi
For those that ignored my cry for help in the "hum" issue with Magicdac 2
FYI the cause of the hum/noise was a stupid low cost pcb mounted RCA socket!!!
The previous owner must have used force to plug in the cable because the ground pin was broken. So i just got rid of it and mounted screw on RCA plug. look at the pic.
Thanks to tracing the signal with an oscilloscope found out that on the XLR sockets the signal is ok but on RCA distored with lots of high freq.
Bought it for 20pounds on Ebay.
Now it is back to life
