Need help selecting loudspeakers for my power mixer

hi i need help selecting loudspeakers for my newly aquired behringer europwer pmp2000 powered mixer , i have been loong and cant seem to find loudspeakers to fit the spec of this mixer
so on the mixer it says it can handle 225watts at 8ohms per side
or 350watts at 4 ohms

i was told that i need to find a loudspeaker that is rated at either 175watts 4 ohms or 125 watts 8 ohms is this correct

any body that has used this mixer any help on recommended speakers would be violently appreciated James

That mixer doesn't have much output power by todays standards so you my find it's limitations fairly quickly, but in general buy the best sounding speakers you can find and mostly ignore thier power ratings.
do you think its a good idea to buy a speaker and use the bridge section of the powered mixer which can handle 800watts at 8 ohms ?, does that mean i would need a speaker that is rated at 400w 8 ohms
and when you say ignore the power rating you mean the watts ? if so how do i pick a speaker

The PMP 2000 specs do not indicate that 225 W is an RMS figure. I suspect the output is way less than 225 W in RMS terms

This sounds like a starter system. I agree with conanski, but will give a targeted suggestion that may suit you.

You don't mention your budget. If it's small you could go for an all Behringer system by using Berhinger speakers.

The power rating of 250 W @ 8 ohm of the speaker in the link below will provide lots of headroom for use with your powered mixer.

And, buying two won't break the bank!

Re picking a speaker:

Back in my old seventiestastic mobile disco days, I made sure the RMS rating of my speaker load was twice the RMS output rating of the amp.

My idea was to leave a good safety margin.

That way I never blew a speaker!

and when you say ignore the power rating you mean the watts ? most modern PA speakers are rated to handle
Most modern PA speakers will have higher power handling specs these days... that's real PA speakers I mean not something you could buy from Amazon for $100 a pair. There are all kinds of "1000w" powered PA speakers available, those specs are often inflated on less expensive models.. there may really only be a total of 500w of power inside some of these but even that is quite a but more than what your mixer has.
if so how do i pick a speaker
The best way to pick a speaker is to listen to them, do you have anywhere near you to go audition some candidates?

How did you acquire this mixer anyway? Was it a gift or something? Self powered speakers offer much better performance these days but I understand if you want to build a system with what you have, if you mention a budget some speaker suggestions would follow.
