I'm here just to pick a mid its currently between 3 drivers.
first of all this build is using 2x 12in woofers in the bass (Vifa M30wo-15) and a vifa D27 tweeter.
for cost i was just going to get a Peerless SDS-P830657 6½" but i saw some Dayton 8in's that look better on paper then the peerless they are the DS215-8 (paper cone) and DSA215-8 (Aluminium cone)
theses look to have a better off axis responses than the peerless (and i think they look much better and much easier to counter sink)
i would get the paper cone but there out of stock for quite a while so the peerless or dayton 8in
Xover will be about 500hz for the bass and mid to tweeter would be about 2.5 to 3khz
SIDE NOTE
The Vifa M30wo-15 don't have a specs sheet and i cant find on the on web but i did find a close one below VV
(http://www.sea.vg/vifa/M30WO-49-08.pdf)
that spec sheet states that they have a 93dB sensitivity at 1 watt (mine are 4 ohm and the spec sheet is for an 8ohm coil i know) but i am getting a dayton DAT and miniDSP UMIK-1
and i would like to get the mids at the same time as the only place that sells it is over seas and would prefer less shipping hassle.
i also already have these the Vifa M30wo-15 drivers all 4 of them. 1 was damaged and had to dissemble the driver to fix the bad glued coil
they also date to 2001
Any help would be largely appreciated XD.

Dunno since I was taught to choose based on polar response matching, so..... ~(500*2500)^0.5 = ~1118 Hz mean, ergo ~13543.3/pi/1118 = 3.86" eff. piston dia. = ~5" dia. frame driver.
i was think going small but i need power handling and something that i mount simply and the dayton / peerless stuff it quite cheaper then anything else i can find
An 8" will be harder to work with, go with a 6-1/2" or 5".
The Dayton Designer Series aluminum cones get better reviews than the paper.
Take a look at the new Dayton Signature Series drivers.

i have even tho they meet the sensitivity i need and that the 5.25in and 6.5in drivers do meet the power they only issue is that they are 4 ohms and i would need 8 or 6
i could use 2 to make 8 ohms but getting that to work is probley harder than getting an 8in to work
Seems your stuck on the 8"
about 1200 to 1400 Hz off axis.
is what any 8" does
The challenge is finding a tweeter to crossover low enough.
Usually something in the 1" to 1 1/8" with very low resonant frequency
I get the mounting simplicity
Lots of 5" and 3.3" inch with nice cast frames.
likely need larger cone area for a mid to
help with sensitivity to cross to a 15"
likely 5 or 5 1/4 inch
likely just shoot for aluminum cone

Hi, did you get your 12" Vifa VC sorted then?
I don't think you need to go to an 8". Plenty of smaller mids will cross at 500hz. You could even go OB or separate narrower box/baffle for the mid/high to help imaging as I assume you'll have quite a wide baffle for the 12s.
That Peerless can be surface mounted as it has a rounded over and very slim frame. Nice driver for the price.
What about the good old Vifa TC series? Assume your buying from Soundimports?
Dayton PS95, or RS100. Admittedly the latter getting a bit spendier.
Or as mentioned above Faital Pro. 3fe/4fe or 5fe are cheap and very good drivers. Very sensitive too and indeed available from Blue Aran and or Lean Audio
Or I've been watching these of late. Not that I need any more drivers!

Power handling isn't really a huge factor when you are using a midrange 500+Hz. As long as it has 30-40W, 4" nominal diameter, and 2mm of xmax; I would not sweat this decision at all.
Since your woofers are likely 93dB each, and wired in series for an 8 ohm load, taking 6dB for BSC yields 87dB worst case sensitivity requirement for your midrange. If your woofers are close to the floor, 88dB is more likely. Using the midrange bandpass filter will likely give you another dB for the BSC target of 4dB, and relative output of 89dB. If your midrange pick is more sensitive than this 88dB, you'll have to pad it down with resistance anyway, and likely about 2 ohms at least if 90dB spec. This allows your driver parameters anything from 4 to 8 ohms to still be 6-8 ohms after the xover is applied. A PRV, Faital, or Lenovo small midrange may suit this purpose quite well. I've used the PRV 4MR60-4 prior, and it may work well for you as it is inexpensive. Having a 5 ohm Zmin impedance for a 6 ohm capable amplifier is probably as low as I would go.
I would not pick an 8" for your mid, as the D27 likely will have trouble meeting it without a waveguide, and the directivity is tough to manage.

while ik that I'm trying to get it to match some of my dads pairs of speakers (mission 763i 2 way 8 inch) as they will be next to each other
i know i should not care about looks.
but i like a lot of 2 way 8inch designs that i have heard.
DSA215-8 8" is 89.2dB @2.83v/1m so a little on the high side but i think the vifa subs are more like 90dB there not as sensitive as some other drivers i have
and before this was the way i was going i was going to make a 12in 2 way system like some old designs.
it may be weird but I'm also planning of the crossover to be odd so that i can turn off the 12in subs and make it a 2 way system when i want to.
Also its new year tonight, in 3 hours for me so have a happy new year everyone.

so the vifa 12in woofers are used in kef 30b and i used that box size and gessing the wood thickness and driver displacement and so a 38.5L box for 1 12in
and according to the kef specs it can do "40Hz to 150Hz +/-3.0dB (-6dB at 35Hz)"
(i know that it is a guess)
at a guess i would need a 77L box. once i get parameters for the drivers i will do it right but I'm still waiting for my dayton DATs.
